Edmonton Oilers<\/a> assistant general manager Bill Scott is a busy man these days.As the Oilers battle with the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2026 playoffs, Scott is now set to interview with a second team for a vacant general manager\u2019s seat. His first came in late March<\/a> with the Nashville Predators, and now, according to John Shannon, his next comes with the Vancouver Canucks.<\/p>\n

Oilers\u2019 AGM Bill Scott, who has interviewed in Nashville, will have an interview in Vancouver, via zoom, for the open GM spot with the Canucks.<\/p>\n

Scott has been seen as the favourite to land the Predators job<\/a>, taking over from Barry Trotz, after it was announced in February he would be stepping down<\/a> as Nashville\u2019s general manager. Vancouver, meanwhile, fired general manager Patrik Allvin in April.<\/p>\n

Hired by the Oilers as the general manager of their AHL affiliate Oklahoma City Barons ahead of the 2010-11 season, Scott held the role solely for four seasons. He was promoted to assistant general manager of the Oilers in 2013-14, and in 2015-16, took on the role of the Bakersfield Condors\u2019 general manager.<\/p>\n

The AGM role turned into a director of hockey operations role in 2016-17, maintaining the Condors GM job for two more seasons. He held the hockey operations job through 2021-22, spending each of the last four seasons as an assistant general manager once again.<\/p>\n

A convoluted path touching many roles in the organization, Scott has handled many things pertaining to the Oilers\u2019 salary cap.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a member of the Oilers hockey management team, Scott\u2019s responsibilities include player and staff contract negotiations, scheduling, salary arbitration, salary cap management and all day to day administrative duties,\u201d his biography on the Oilers website<\/a> reads. \u201cHe is also the club\u2019s liaison to the NHL regarding matters pertaining to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.\u201dScott\u2019s well known in Edmonton for his lucky socks<\/a> \u2014 a pair of red socks with maple leafs on them, reading \u201cGood Luck Socks\u201d on the bottom.
