{"id":567024,"date":"2026-05-05T00:03:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T00:03:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/567024\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T00:03:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T00:03:19","slug":"noah-dobsons-family-friends-watching-from-p-e-i-as-he-heads-to-2nd-round-of-nhl-playoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/567024\/","title":{"rendered":"Noah Dobson&#8217;s family, friends watching from P.E.I. as he heads to 2nd round of NHL playoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Montreal Canadiens are heading to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and P.E.I.&#8217;s Noah Dobson is back manning their blue line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Summerside-born defenceman <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/montreal-canadiens-game-7-tampa-bay-lightning-stanley-cup-playoffs-9.7186155\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:returned for Game 7;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">returned for Game 7<\/a> against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night \u2014 his first game since April 11, when he took a puck to his left hand off a slapshot during a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Noah&#8217;s father, Andrew Dobson, said his family is &#8220;still on cloud 9&#8221; following the Canadiens&#8217; nail-biting 2-1 win to clinch the first-round series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It&#8217;s probably one of the most nerve-racking games we have witnessed Noah play \u2014 pretty excited, happy for him, obviously happy for the Montreal Canadiens and the organization,&#8221; Andrew said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It was a blood, sweat, tears type of series \u2026 and glad that we came out on top.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Andrew Dobson, the father of Montreal Canadien Noah Dobson, says he was nervous watching his son play in a crucial Game 7 on Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/9f11281eb534ae1172f357751e477a66.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Andrew Dobson, the father of Montreal Canadiens defenceman Noah Dobson, says he was nervous watching his son play in a crucial Game 7 on Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. (Zoom)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Andrew also praised the Bell Centre \u2014 the Habs&#8217; home arena \u2014 as &#8220;one of the best places to watch a hockey game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The fans are so passionate, they love their Habs,&#8221; he said.\u00a0&#8220;We&#8217;re \u2026 happy and proud of Noah and where he&#8217;s been, coming from Prince Edward Island and playing for the Montreal Canadiens.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He admitted to being nervous watching Monday&#8217;s game \u2014 &#8220;I would say on a scale of 1 to 10, I would say probably 11&#8221; \u2014 but he&#8217;s seen his son play in do-or-die situations before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That includes Noah&#8217;s two national championship wins in 2018 and 2019 while playing with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League&#8217;s Acadie\u2013Bathurst Titan and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It&#8217;s like any parent, you just want your kid to do the best and hope for the best,&#8221; Andrew said. &#8220;And I think last night he played a great game and got the [win].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Rodney MacArthur, one of Noah&#8217;s former coaches, described him as a good family friend. He knew Noah from a young age, and coached him in the bantam ranks until about 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A Canadiens fan, MacArthur said he was nervous for Noah and his family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;For Noah to step in and play as well as he did was really something,&#8221; MacArthur said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;He has that poise and you just see it. He wasn&#8217;t in a rush.\u2026 He regrouped the puck many times back in his own end, just like he always does. It helped him step into a situation like that and do great. I thought he had a great game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"'Being a 6-foot-3 defenceman who can skate and shoot and pass like he does, and with that kind of poise, he checks a lot of boxes for scouts,' says Dobson's former long-time coach, Rodney MacArthur.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/f978e06d6b9df696d34cc6bc7cca25dd.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Noah Dobson&#8217;s former coach Rodney MacArthur says there was a feeling Noah would be able to go pro. (Krystalle Ramlahkan\/CBC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The fact that Noah is a special hockey player became clear when he was young, MacArthur said, adding he possesses a lot of positive qualities to succeed, including size and competitive drive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In minor hockey, Noah would often find himself playing with older players and would still have control of the ice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;You knew he was a great player,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Our feeling was he was going to be a pro hockey player for sure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Andrew said he and Noah text after every game, win or lose. Monday night, those messages included congratulations and praise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;You&#8217;re just here to support as a parent,&#8221; Andrew said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I mean, whatever happens on the ice, happens on the ice, but at the end of the day, he&#8217;s obviously your child, so you just want to be there for him &#8230; but he was all smiles last night.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">MacArthur said Noah&#8217;s success hasn&#8217;t gone to his head, noting he often comes home to P.E.I. in the off-season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;He&#8217;s a millionaire hockey player and a star defenceman in the NHL and with a storied team like Montreal,&#8221; MacArthur said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;He hasn&#8217;t changed. He comes home and he golfs with his buddies. He&#8217;s good to people that call him and reach out\u2026. He&#8217;s always giving back. And that&#8217;s what makes us cheer for him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Andrew agreed that Noah hasn&#8217;t forgotten his roots, describing his son as &#8220;very proud of where he comes from.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I know they say it&#8217;ll take a village to raise a child, but it definitely takes a village to raise a hockey player, too, to make it to that level,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of people that contribute across P.E.I. and across Canada.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Noah and the Montreal Canadiens return to the ice Wednesday to start the second round against the Buffalo Sabres.
