{"id":568951,"date":"2026-05-07T08:12:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T08:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/568951\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T08:12:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T08:12:18","slug":"nba-news-chicago-bulls-owner-admits-he-failed-the-fans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/568951\/","title":{"rendered":"NBA News: Chicago Bulls owner admits he failed the fans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicitysports.com\/chicagobulls\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Bulls<\/a> have had a curse ever since owner Jerry Reinsdorf made the decision not to run it back after the 1988 NBA championship, prompting Michael Jordan to briefly retire.<\/p>\n<p>The Bulls had moderate success with Derrick Rose, but he was never the same after his ACL injury in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Since the Bulls\u2019 loss in the conference finals to the Miami Heat in 2011, Chicago has won two playoff series, with the last coming in the first round of the 2015 playoffs. The Bulls\u2019 last playoff appearance was in 2022, the second year of the former regime of executive Art\u016bras Karni\u0161ovas.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf took responsibility for the team\u2019s recent failures, suggesting new executive vice president of basketball <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicitysports.com\/wild-bryson-graham-story-resurfaces-controversial-chicago-bulls-hiring\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bryson Graham<\/a> was capable of making hard but necessary changes to make the team competitive again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst I\u2019ll start with our fans,\u201d Reinsdorf <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/bulls\/2026\/05\/06\/bulls-introduce-new-man-in-charge-bryson-graham-hits-notes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said,<\/a> via the Chicago Sun-Times. \u201cI want to, actually I need to, say I\u2019m sorry because the results obviously haven\u2019t been there. It\u2019s not something I\u2019m proud of and it\u2019s something I want to get right. Ultimately it flows up to me and I take responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do feel that (Wednesday) is a step in the right direction and it\u2019s an important step. At the end of the day, Bryson just clearly stood out. So why Bryson? I think it starts with he\u2019s not about shortcuts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maybe Bill Donovan\u2019s decision to flee the ship got Reinsdorf\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n<p>The Chicago Bulls are in full rebuild mode<br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-166453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/USATSI_24366168_168419782_lowres-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Bryson Graham, Chicago Bulls\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1706\"  \/>New Chicago Bulls executive Bryson Graham: Matthew Hinton-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>The Bulls chose Graham because of his history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicitysports.com\/chicago-bulls-immediately-under-fire-for-hiring-evp-bryson-graham\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">having an eye for talent,<\/a> and Chicago needs a lot of that in the next few draft classes. Karni\u0161ovas had a knack for missing elite players like Tyrese\u00a0Haliburton and Derik Queen.<\/p>\n<p>Graham was honest in his assessment of the Bulls\u2019 current roster, saying the team was in need of a rebuild. Most executives shy away from saying the \u201cR\u201d word out loud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost rebuild situations are when you don\u2019t have star-caliber players,\u201d Graham said. \u201cRight now, not to say we don\u2019t have anyone on this roster that can get there, but until we continue to draft well, add to this mix, and add overall talent and team identity, yeah, we\u2019re in a rebuilding phase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bulls needed to start with honesty about needing to rebuild.
