Paul, Minn. \u2014 Minnesota Wild forward Michael McCarron called Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson a \u201cdirty player\u201d during a first intermission interview Monday night with ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Manson was assessed a double minor for butt-ending after getting tangled up with McCarron along the boards during the first period of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2026\/05\/09\/avalanche-wild-game-4-prediction-goalie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Game 4<\/a> in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2026\/05\/01\/avalanche-wild-nhl-stanley-cup-playoff-schedule\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">best-of-seven second-round series<\/a>. McCarron hit Manson, and they fell to the ice and began wrestling with each other. McCarron rolled off Manson and appeared to be writhing on the ice as play stopped.<\/p>\n<p>The officials did not call a penalty while the puck was in play, but huddled and reviewed a potential major penalty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou played against Josh. He\u2019s a dirty player,\u201d McCarron said to ESPN\u2019s P.K. Subban during a first intermission interview. \u201cHe\u2019s always been. Surprised he got away with only a four-minute (penalty). I\u2019m happy he\u2019s still in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manson was given a double minor, not a major and a game misconduct. ESPN rules analyst Dave Jackson said a double minor can be assessed for an attempted butt end if there isn\u2019t clear video evidence that the stick hit its intended target.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota scored in the second half of the double minor, the lone goal of the first period. This was Manson\u2019s first game back after missing the past four with an injury.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/myaccount.denverpost.com\/dp\/preference\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Want more Avalanche news?
