With multiple reports suggesting that Daniil Miromanov has signed with SKA St. Petersburg, it appears that the Russian blueliner\u2019s time with the Calgary Flames<\/a> has come to an end.<\/p>\n

That news \u2014 first reported by Sport-Express\u2019 Artur Khairulin \u2014 won\u2019t come as a big shock to most people who follow the Flames. While the 28-year-old was well-liked during his time with the team he had fallen out of the regular NHL rotation and was mostly playing with the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL this season.<\/p>\n

Acquired by the Flames at the 2024 trade deadline as part of the return they got for Noah Hanifin, Miromanov never quite found his feet at the NHL level for the team. He was coming off a serious knee injury when he first arrived in Calgary and that set him back, but even when he recovered he just never quite fit.<\/p>\n

At 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 207 lbs., Miromanov had the size to play on an NHL blueline but was never especially physical. The Flames tried him alongside MacKenzie Weegar on a couple of occasions, but it never quite clicked, and because Miromanov was ill-suited for a third-pairing role, that often left him as the odd man out of the lineup. He often struggled to find ways to impose himself on games.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always ask our players to be hard in their own way,\u201d said Flames head coach Ryan Huska in January. \u201cThere\u2019s a difference between a Ryan Lomberg hard and a Miro hard. For Miro, we want him to use his speed the right way to close quick on people, and he has to get into hands and be hungry and hard in his one-on-one battles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we look at him or when we evaluate him after a game, it\u2019s, \u2018Is he doing that? Is he competitive on and at the puck?\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

Miromanov wound up playing in 65 games over parts of three seasons for the Flames, recording five goals and 11 assists, but made only one appearance in 2025-26 while playing in 66 games for the Wranglers.<\/p>\n

With Zayne Parekh<\/a> and Hunter Brzustewicz emerging as NHL options, Brayden Pachal providing a physical dynamic and Zach Whitecloud fitting in seamlessly since being acquired in January, the Flames simply didn\u2019t have room for another right-shot blueliner like Miromanov. WIth his contract expiring, it seemed inevitable that his tenure in Calgary would be coming to an end this summer.<\/p>\n
