Max Sasson has kept his foot on the gas\u00a0all\u00a0season and\u00a0is now looking to take that next step as he prepares for next year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Having\u00a0accomplished\u00a0his primary goal of making it at the NHL level, he now hopes to push himself further and\u00a0showcase\u00a0growth in his all-around game at training camp next year. Sasson believes\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0made\u00a0significant\u00a0improvements\u00a0in his game\u00a0this past season, and that he can continue to develop into a role player that can help the Canucks\u00a0moving\u00a0forward.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u00a0always will\u00a0be in the mindset of coming to training camp,\u00a0[that]\u00a0everyone\u2019s\u00a0on the same playing field and trying to show how much\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0improved,\u201d Sasson said. \u201cI really want to come into training camp and show that I can be a reliable PK guy, I can play up and down the lineup,\u00a0I think I\u2019ve done a good job of that,\u00a0and I want to continue to show that my ceiling is higher.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
One of Sasson\u2019s major skills that have\u00a0translated\u00a0seamlessly to the NHL level, is his skating and\u00a0speed. That had served as a major confidence booster, and\u00a0asset\u00a0in his toolkit that he can\u00a0rely on regardless of the competition level.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I\u2019ve shown the organization, the league, myself that I can skate around some of the best players in the world and so that\u2019s a big confidence booster going into the summer and next year,\u201d Sasson said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Beyond his physical skillset, Sasson has been working on his mental game alongside fellow teammate Aaty R\u00e4ty. Sasson\u00a0found\u00a0what mental preparation works best for\u00a0him for\u00a0each\u00a0game and\u00a0has begun to see the value of having a steady mind based on his results on the ice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I\u2019m at my best, when anyone\u2019s at their best, they\u2019re reacting off instinct and they\u2019re not\u00a0thinking,\u00a0and I found a lot of when I have a quiet mind, that the results will come,\u201d Sasson said. \u201cI think that\u2019s something I really have learned this year in comparison to last year.\u201d\u00a0 Sasson\u2019s commitment to learning about the pros of developing his mental\u00a0game\u00a0has\u00a0taught him how to notice even\u00a0small details\u00a0of how it can affect both his\u00a0teammates and\u00a0opposing players during a game\u00a0as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can tell the guys that are not thinking and are just playing off instinct, and on the other hand, when a guy is thinking and\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0holding a stick too tight, you can tell. The quiet mind was the biggest thing that\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0seen for myself,\u201d Sasson said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
By continuing to develop his mental\u00a0approach, Sasson hopes to go into next season calm, steady, and feel confident that he can play to the best of his abilities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to\u00a0come to\u00a0camp being free, and I think if I do, I\u2019ve seen [that] the results have proven that that\u2019s when I\u2019m at my best,\u201d Sasson said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
This offseason will have Sasson focusing on all aspects of his game as he pushes himself to be consistent at the NHL level\u00a0each\u00a0night. With the team entering a rebuilding era\u00a0centred\u00a0around a positive culture and consistent work ethic, Sasson is looking forward to the next season and what he can do to be a valued teammate both on and off the ice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really excited for the culture to continue to develop,\u201d Sasson said.\u00a0\u201cAnd\u00a0I think that\u00a0it\u2019ll\u00a0equal to a lot more wins, so\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0really excited\u00a0to see everyone grow as a player, person, and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0really looking forward to it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
