Following a period of tension during his tenure as captain of the New York Rangers<\/a>, general manager Chris Drury shipped him to the Anaheim Ducks<\/a> in December 2024 in exchange for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen<\/a> and a conditional 2025 fourth-round pick.<\/p>\n

While they missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024-25, Trouba and his new teammates would not only make the playoffs this spring, but also upset the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> in the Western Conference Quarterfinal. However, the Ducks would be eliminated<\/a> by the Vegas Golden Knights<\/a> in the subsequent round.<\/p>\n

Now, Ducks GM Pat Verbeek is turning his attention toward the club\u2019s pending unrestricted free agents, Trouba among them. However, according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the two sides aren\u2019t making much progress<\/a> on a new agreement for next season and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve been negotiating with [Jacob] Trouba on and off, and to this point they haven\u2019t been able to close it,\u201d Friedman reported via The Fan Hockey Show.<\/p>\n

Trouba is coming off a seven-year, $56 million contract he inked with the Rangers, and this season, he appeared in 81 games in his first full campaign in Anaheim, scoring 10 goals and 35 points while averaging nearly 23 minutes of ice time per game. During the postseason, he scored once in 12 games while also registering a plus-one rating.<\/p>\n

Originally selected in the opening round (ninth overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets<\/a>, Trouba has appeared in 906 career games and has scored 84 goals with 274 assists for 358 points, while also accumulating 701 penalty minutes. He\u2019s also added five goals and 15 assists in 85 career playoff games.<\/p>\n
