Potential UFA Bobby McMann is the new flavor of week for Detroit Red Wings fans who desperately want GM Steve Yzerman to bring in more goals.<\/p>\n
The first bugaboo of that plan is the Seattle Kraken are making a strong effort to re-sign him.<\/p>\n
But here are the pros and cons of a McMann signing.<\/p>\n
Pros<\/p>\n
Between Toronto and Seattle last season, McMann scored 29 goals. He seems like a quality fit to play with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. He\u2019s a fast, physical, forechecking 217-pound winger with scoring ability. He scored 54 goals in 190 games for Toronto. McMann had 10 goals and 14 points in 18 games after he was traded to Seattle last season. The projected annual average salary is $5 million to $5.3 million on a four- or five-year deal. His contract wouldn\u2019t break the bank. <\/p>\n
Cons<\/p>\n
There\u2019s a long line forming for his services. The Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, and even the Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to making an offer for his services. A few other teams will be interested. If McMann is emphasizing the quality of the team, the Red Wings don\u2019t measure up. McMann turns 30 on June 15. He\u2019s only scored 20 or more goals twice. As a scorer, he can be streaky.<\/p>\n
To win a recruiting war for McMann, the Red Wings would have to overpay him and sell him hard on being the missing piece for Raymond and Larkin.<\/p>\n
