According to a complaint filed in Chancery Court, trustees Kevin Hickman and Suzanne Moore used the Hays Foundation to make nearly $10 million through an art dealing venture, living “lavishly on the foundation’s resources” and allowing the foundation’s tax-exempt status to lapse. Both had close relationships with Spencer Hays, the man for whom the foundation was posthumously named, and were also named co-executors of his estate. The complaint states that Moore and Hickman used Jefferson Company — a subsidiary of the foundation which Hays had created to buy and sell art — to secure a line of credit using the foundation as a guarantor. They then used the capital to make $10 million in proceeds that they didn’t share with the foundation. According to the filing, the foundation hired forensic accountants and legal counsel to investigate its financial condition and put it back in compliance. (Editor’s note: The Banner has received funding from the Hays Foundation.) — Mikeie Honda Reiland

PARKS PLAN: The Metro Park Board approved an update to the Parks and Greenways Master Plan, which was adopted in 2017. The 2026 Plan to Play Update prioritizes land, facilities, greenways, programs, operations and funding through 2031. Community open houses will be held Wednesday at Hartman Community Center (2801 Tucker Road), Thursday at Bellevue Community Center (7638 A Highway 70 South), June 16 at Hermitage Community Center (3720 James Kay Lane) and June 18 at Southeast Community Center (5260 Hickory Hollow Parkway, Room 202) to provide more information and solicit public feedback. All open houses will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. “Parks matter more than ever in a growing city like Nashville,” Monique Horton Odom, the Metro Parks director, said in a release. “The board’s approval of this update reflects both how far we’ve come and what it will take to meet the needs of the future.” Over the past decade, Metro Parks has opened or begun development on 16 new parks, expanded the city’s greenway system to 110 miles and invested nearly $300 million in facilities. — David Boclair

PREDS GM: The Nashville Predators named Chris McFarland their President of Hockey Operations/General Manager. The 56-year-old spent the last 11 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche and was their general manager during the past four, during which the Avalanche led the NHL in wins (205), won two division titles and one President’s Trophy. Colorado recently advanced to this year’s Western Conference final, and McFarland is a finalist for the NHL General Manager of the Year award. “We conducted an exhaustive search and were able to meet with several very qualified and impressive candidates, but all along, we were hopeful to interview Chris,” Bill Haslam, the Predators’ chairman and majority owner, said in a release. “He turned out to be a perfect fit for us.” McFarland succeeds Barry Trotz, who will transition into an advisory role. — David Boclair

This article first appeared on Nashville Banner and is republished here under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.

by Banner Staff, Nashville Banner June 3, 2026 ART DEALING: The Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation is suing…

[5119
4678,13903,4344,5,65668,65669,65670,65671,2409,231,5281,4,19196,2410,65672,65673,2415
post-590198","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nashville-predators","tag-barry-trotz","tag-bill-haslam","tag-chris-mcfarland","tag-hockey","tag-jeffereon-company","tag-kevin-hickman","tag-metro-park-board","tag-monique-horton-odom","tag-nashville","tag-nashville-predators","tag-nashvillepredators","tag-nhl","tag-on-the-record","tag-predators","tag-spencer-hays","tag-suzanne-moore","tag-tennessee
["GET
