The parent New York Rangers have hired a new coach for their AHL affiliate in Hartford, naming Jay Leach to the position Friday.<\/p>\n
Leach, 46, has been an AHL head coach with the Providence Bruins, and more recently has been an assistant in the NHL on the staffs of the Seattle Kraken and Boston Bruins. In Hartford, he replaces Grant Potulny, fired in April after Hartford finished 26-38-5-3, missing the playoffs for the second year in a row under him.<\/p>\n
At Providence, Leach was 136-77-26, winning back to back division titles in 2020 and 21. He has also been an assistant an interim head coach in the AHL with the Penguins\u2019 affiliate.<\/p>\n
Leach, a Syracuse native, played in 70 NHL games with five teams, and 12 years of professional hockey.<\/p>\n
