This is good news for Montreal Canadiens fans hoping for a major addition up front.<\/p>\n
It was in an article for The Athletic that the insider turned up the heat on the situation.<\/p>\n
A statement that says a lot about the organization’s intentions.<\/p>\n
LeBrun did not mince words regarding Hughes’ interest in Hischier.<\/p>\n
“If Nico Hischier became available, the Canadiens would not be fooling around and would be willing to pay the price,” he wrote.<\/p>\n
He also added that Kent Hughes is already working hard on the type of major acquisition that could help the Canadiens take another step forward.<\/p>\n
According to LeBrun, Hischier is essentially the left-handed version of Nick Suzuki<\/a>, which would make the two an ideal one-two punch down the middle.<\/p>\n Kent Hughes would be willing to do a lot to acquire Nico Hischier<\/p>\n The biggest question remains whether the player will actually become available.<\/p>\n Hischier is one year away from unrestricted free agency, and New Jersey could simply choose to sign him to an extension.<\/p>\n Any trade would therefore likely come with a condition.<\/p>\n It is reasonable to believe that an acquisition would be accompanied by a long-term contract agreement for the Swiss center.<\/p>\n
