{"id":595944,"date":"2026-06-10T21:21:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T21:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/595944\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T21:21:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T21:21:14","slug":"former-nhler-pascal-rheaume-named-toronto-sceptres-coach-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/595944\/","title":{"rendered":"Former NHLer Pascal Rheaume named Toronto Sceptres coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AP Hockey Writer (AP) \u2014 Former NHL player Pascal Rheaume was named coach of the Toronto Sceptres on Wednesday, becoming the second member of his family to join the PWHL this spring.<\/p>\n<p>His older sister, Manon Rheaume, is general manager of the league\u2019s expansion team in Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>In Toronto, Rheaume replaces Troy Ryan, who left the Sceptres after their first three seasons to take over as coach and GM of the PWHL\u2019s expansion team in San Jose.<\/p>\n<p>Rheaume won a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 2003 during his nine-year NHL career split among six teams.<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old from Quebec City has spent the past 14 years in coaching, including the last two as an assistant with the New York Islanders\u2019 American Hockey League affiliate in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He had one stint as head coach, spending two seasons overseeing Val-d\u2019Or of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPascal brings a fresh perspective, a new voice, and valuable professional experience to our organization,\u201d Sceptres GM Gina Kingsbury said. \u201cWe believe Pascal\u2019s leadership, experience, and approach to player development will have a tremendous impact on our group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sceptres finished fifth last season, missing the playoffs for the first time in their three-year history. The team is in transition \u2014 as are all eight of the PWHL\u2019s existing franchises \u2014 during the league\u2019s latest expansion phase, which involves four new markets.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto lost two of its top three leading scorers, with Daryl Watts and Jesse Compher joining Detroit in the expansion signing process.<\/p>\n<p>Rheaume also won an AHL Calder Cup in 1995 with Albany. He finished his NHL career with 39 goals and 91 points in 318 games that included stops in St. Louis, Atlanta, Chicago, the New York Rangers and Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p>He becomes the second former NHLer to coach in the PWHL, joining Minnesota&#8217;s two-time Walter Cupwinner Ken Klee.
