That is where Nurse enters the discussion. At 6-foot-4 and known for his physical style, he brings elements Toronto has often lacked. The challenge, of course, is his contract. Nurse carries a $9.25 million cap hit<\/a>, significantly higher than Rielly\u2019s, and Edmonton would likely demand a substantial return. Any serious discussion involving Nurse inevitably circles back to Rielly because he is one of the few players with a contract large enough to make the financial puzzle work.<\/p>\n

Whether a trade ever materializes remains uncertain. What the rumours do reveal, however, is that conversations once considered impossible are now being openly discussed. A few seasons ago, the idea of moving Rielly would have been dismissed immediately. Today, it feels like a legitimate question worth asking.<\/p>\n

That reality places Stolarz in an interesting position. As Larkin noted, he is the oldest and most expensive member of the group\u2019s current NHL tandem and carries a more extensive injury history than the others. At the same time, those same factors could limit his trade value. The bigger story, however, is that Toronto has built enough organizational depth in goal that moving a veteran netminder has become a realistic conversation. Not long ago, that would have sounded like a luxury the Maple Leafs could only dream about.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Next for the Maple Leafs?<\/p>\n

The common theme connecting both stories is that Toronto\u2019s front office appears to be examining every part of the roster. That doesn\u2019t mean major trades are imminent, but it does suggest that no conversation is being ruled out. The Maple Leafs have reached the point where maintaining the status quo is no longer viewed as the safest path forward.<\/p>\n

If there is a lesson from the past several offseasons, it is that championship contenders constantly look for ways to reshape themselves before stagnation sets in. Whether that means exploring a major defence swap involving Rielly, moving from a position of strength in goal, or pursuing another unexpected deal entirely, the next few weeks could reveal just how aggressive the organization intends to be. The rumours may only be beginning, but they point to a summer that could be far more active than many expected.<\/p>\n
