(Photo by Debora Robinson/NHLI via Getty Images) The Montreal Canadiens have apparently reignited their interest in Anaheim Ducks center Mason McTavish as they keep looking for help down the middle. The Canadiens are once again linked to the 23-year-old forward as the NHL offseason begins, and he remains a key part of the Ducks’ core despite recent speculation surrounding his role.Recent moves indicate Montreal’s front office remains active in trying to boost the roster behind captain Nick Suzuki. It’s not believed the talks are highly advanced, but the Canadiens have been pretty clear that they still see adding another top-six centre as a priority as they head into the 2026-27 season.

Montreal Canadiens revisit Mason McTavish NHL trade talks

Reports indicate that the Montreal front office has recently made contact with the Anaheim Ducks regarding the availability of the former third-overall pick. The Canadiens are not close to a deal but are still monitoring the situation closely.General manager Kent Hughes has been on the lookout for another impact center for a long time to complement Nick Suzuki and strengthen the top six. Mason McTavish’s age and long-term upside make him an attractive target for Montreal’s rebuild timeline.

Why Anaheim Ducks value Mason McTavish highly

That’s why the Anaheim Ducks still see Mason McTavish as an important piece for their future. McTavish still is one of the franchise’s most talented young players, despite scoring 41 points in 75 games during the 2025-26 season. He’s under contract through the 2030-31 season at a $7 million cap hit, giving the Ducks a lot of control over his future.Throughout the season, there were reports of decreased ice time and sometimes discrepancies in his general play. But Anaheim is unlikely to move the center unless it gets a significant return.

What could a Mason McTavish trade mean

The addition of the young centre would provide scoring depth and relieve some pressure on Nick Suzuki. But the cost could be steep, with top prospects and premium draft assets likely needed in any deal. The only way Anaheim Ducks trading McTavish makes sense is if the return accelerates their long-term plan. With the NHL offseason in full swing, expect both teams to be active, keeping Mason McTavish’s name in the NHL trade rumours and NHL news roundup discussions.

Mason McTavish #23 of the Anaheim Ducks looks on during warm ups prior to the game against the…

[5123
24781,2210,233,5292,1739,5,3043,21,4,45428,5151,546,20518,975,54621
post-598095","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-anaheim-ducks","tag-2026-27-season","tag-anaheim","tag-anaheim-ducks","tag-anaheimducks","tag-ducks","tag-hockey","tag-mason-mctavish","tag-montreal-canadiens","tag-nhl","tag-nhl-news-roundup","tag-nhl-offseason","tag-nhl-trade-rumors","tag-nhl-trade-talks","tag-nick-suzuki","tag-top-six-center
["GET
