{"id":599575,"date":"2026-06-15T22:39:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T22:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/599575\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T22:39:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T22:39:14","slug":"ron-maclean-apologizes-for-roofie-joke-during-stanley-cup-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/599575\/","title":{"rendered":"Ron MacLean apologizes for roofie joke during Stanley Cup Final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ron MacLean, one of Canada\u2019s most beloved hockey broadcasters, issued an apology for a remark he made on-air before Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the Carolina Hurricanes winning their second Stanley Cup in franchise history with a shutout win over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6, Hockey Night in Canada aired a skit that caused MacLean to make a controversial joke. The skit was meant to parody a scene from The Hangover, where Sportsnet reporter Kyle Bukauskas jokingly finds Stanley Cup keepers Phil Pritchard and Craig Campbell passed out on a rooftop after a night of partying in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Ron McLean actively trying to get himself into an early retirement tonight by making a roofie joke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cthe roofies, they\u2019ll get you every time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t even try to suggest this isn\u2019t worse than what Cherry was done in for. I did not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I triggered some people,\u201d he continued. \u201cI know I offended some people with that remark, and I feel very badly for that. And I want to thank you for bringing it to my attention, to our attention, I\u2019m very sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time MacLean has needed to apologize for something said on-air. In 2021, he issued a statement after making a joke that many <a href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/international\/ron-maclean-apologizes-for-testing-positive-for-something-comment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">considered homophobic<\/a>. MacLean was also on Hockey Night in Canada in 2019, when longtime analyst Don Cherry launched an offensive rant about immigrants that led to his firing.
