In an Instagram post, his daughter Madison announced the tragic news, noting that her father had suffered from a “brief illness.”

“Dad, there will never ever be enough words in the world to describe how incredibly lucky I was to have you as my dad,” she posted. “Never in a million years would I have thought this day would come. There will forever be a void in my heart, but forever a spot just for you.”

He’d post two 20-goal seasons in Chicago, including a career-high 26 goals in 2005-06.

Among those responding to the news was former NHL forward Colby Armstrong.

“I used to train every day in the summer with him in Saskatoon,” Armstrong posted on Instagram. “He had such a laid-back, loving, easy-going way to him that made him so easy to be around.”

Along with the Red Wings and Blackhawks, Calder also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, and Anaheim Ducks.

The Red Wings acquired Calder at the 2007 NHL trade deadline

It was the Blackhawks who would deal Calder to Detroit at the 2007 NHL trade deadline in exchange for forward Jason Williams.
