RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – The Carolina Hurricanes held their championship parade in Raleigh on Saturday after winning the Stanley Cup on Sunday for the first time since 2006.<\/p>\n
An estimated 150,000 people attended the celebration, a number officials said likely breaks the record for the largest gathering in one place in Raleigh.<\/p>\n
Fans were ecstatic to be in the mix and see the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust to see the team,\u201d said Josh Dickinson, a parade goer. \u201cThis is awesome this is next level like fun right here.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rudy Baez, another parade goer, said the atmosphere was electric.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh man this is electric man it\u2019s been a great season,\u201d Baez said. \u201cJust seeing the cup, just seeing them drive by, cheering em on, go Canes!\u201d<\/p>\n
Dickinson said he has followed the team for years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I was a little kid, I went to Whaler Games so it\u2019s awesome to be down here and carry on the tradition at Canes Games,\u201d Dickinson said.<\/p>\n
But while it was exciting for fans to see their team, the community support meant a lot to the team too.<\/p>\n
\u201cIncredible I mean it\u2019s so cool being the only pro sports team in town and here and just realizing how much they care all those people out there their canes fans for life and that\u2019s very special,\u201d said Taylor Hall, Canes forward.<\/p>\n
Head Coach Rod Brind\u2019Amour said he did not expect the turnout.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did not expect that, I mean it was just way more way more people,\u201d Brind\u2019Amour said. \u201cThey were enthusiastic, this is why we do this.\u201d<\/p>\n
