The Utah Mammoth have signed former New York Islanders captain Anders Lee to a three-year contract worth $5.4 million annually.<\/p>\n

Lee, who turns 36 on Friday, has spent his entire 923-game NHL career with the Islanders. He has maintained consistent scoring throughout his career, annually producing roughly 20-30 goals and 45-60 points.<\/p>\n

At 6-foot-3 and 234 pounds, Lee can play a heavy net-front game, not unlike Mammoth associate captain Lawson Crouse. His playoff experience makes him valuable, too \u2014 he went to the conference final in back-to-back seasons (2020 and 2021).<\/p>\n

Having lost former alternate captain Alexander Kerfoot to the Nashville Predators in free agency Wednesday morning, the Mammoth are sure to use Lee in a leadership role, regardless of whether he wears a letter on his jersey.<\/p>\n

Lee joins Vincent Trocheck<\/a> as the second New York-based star to join the Mammoth Wednesday afternoon. Utah acquired Trocheck from the New York Rangers less than an hour earlier.<\/p>\n

If Utah ever gets an NFL team, Lee could pull double duty: He was a star football player in high school, earning 2008 Minnesota Gatorade Football Player of the Year and Star Tribune All-Metro Player of the Year, while finishing as the runner-up for Minnesota\u2019s \u201cMr. Football\u201d award.<\/p>\n

Who beat him to the latter? Former NFL cornerback Varmah Sonie. <\/p>\n
