Mason Marchment<\/a> signed a five-year, $33.75 million contract with the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The contract has an average annual value of $6.75 million.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old forward had 45 points (19 goals, 26 assists) in 68 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Seattle\u00a0Kraken last season including 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) in 39 games for Columbus after he was acquired in a trade with Seattle on Dec. 19.<\/p>\n

Signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs as an\u00a0undrafted free agent March 17, 2018, Marchment has 234 points (95 goals, 139 assists) in 370 regular-season games for the Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Dallas Stars, Kraken and Blue Jackets and 19 points (11 goals, eight assists) in 59 Stanley Cup Playoff games.<\/p>\n

His dad, Bryan<\/a>, played 17 seasons in the NHL, including six seasons with the Sharks from 1998-2003. He died in 2022 at the age of 53 while working as a scout for the Sharks.<\/p>\n

“It’s pretty crazy for me, it’s just so full circle,” Marchment said. “This is really where I remember my dad playing the most, is San Jose. There’s just so many good memories at the rink. It’s always special for me and my family, for sure.<\/p>\n

“I was talking to (Sharks equipment manager) Mike (Aldrich) on the phone this morning. It was just being at the rink and running around, playing mini sticks. He’ll tell you I was in the stick room far too much. I was always in there trying sticks, flexing them, asking him if I cut them down.”<\/p>\n

He said he is looking forward to playing with Sharks forward\u00a0Macklin Celebrini<\/a>, who has 178 points (70 goals, 108 assists) in his first two NHL seasons.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Celebrini) comes in and really took the League by storm,\u201d Marchment told TSN. \u201cPlaying against him, watching him — he’s a one-of-a-kind player. Just to go join them and help build that — something I’ve always in the back of my head kind of wanted to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it’s perfect timing; they’re on the up. They have so many young, talented players. (General manager Mike\u00a0Grier) has done a great job bringing in some guys to help them. Hopefully I can be one of those guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sharks also signed veteran\u00a0defenseman Jacob Trouba<\/a>\u00a0to a four-year contract with an AAV of $8.25 million on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
