With only three days of ice-time, and many different players to work with, San Jose Barracuda coach John McCarthy\u00a0has a lot to keep an eye on during San Jose Sharks development camp.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But in that time, 2025 third-round pick Teddy Mutryn stood out to McCarthy as someone who\u00a0had grown in the last year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Where has that growth been?\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSmaller\u00a0stuff, stuff along the yellow\u00a0[of the boards],\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cWe cover a lot of the same topics. So, the guys that have been to\u00a0[more development camps]\u00a0you\u2019d\u00a0expect to have a little bit of advantage, but I thought he took that concept and ran with it pretty\u00a0good.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mutryn himself said being at his second camp has allowed him more familiarity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe a\u00a0little more comfortable, a little more confident, and then you know a lot more people,\u201d Mutryn said. \u201cBeing a guy\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0more outgoing, meeting new guys is the biggest thing out here.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0getting familiar with the\u00a0group and stuff.\u00a0The on-ice stuff and off-ice stuff is big, but being comfortable with the guys in the organization is the biggest part.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
After putting up 31 goals and 37 assists in 54 games for the\u00a0Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL,\u00a0Mutryn\u00a0is headed to Boston College for his\u00a0freshman\u00a0year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mutryn spoke about\u00a0heading to\u00a0USA\u2019s\u00a0World Junior Summer Showcase, learning from\u00a0a QMJHL Final run, and his relationship with his brother Casey, who just got drafted\u00a0in the second round by the Seattle Kraken.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both Teddy and Casey Mutryn will be going to WJSS\u00a0this summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0been great. The game show was a ton of fun. My team\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0win, unfortunately.\u00a0Got\u00a0to work on my trivia skills, but no,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0been great. We have\u00a0a great group\u00a0of guys out here.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On what he learned from going deep in the playoffs with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n
That playoff run,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0tough on the body and the mental state as well, but\u00a0lot\u00a0of perseverance, a lot of grit. You got to be able to wake up every day and do the same monotonous thing and just grind through and give it your all. That was the biggest part of that run.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On seeing his brother, Casey,\u00a0get\u00a0drafted by the Seattle Kraken last week\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was awesome. I was so happy for him. Obviously,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0grown up together our whole lives playing hockey, competing against each other. But\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0his\u00a0No. 1\u00a0fan,\u00a0maybe besides\u00a0my parents, but just so happy, so proud of him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On\u00a0growing up with\u00a0his brother\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n
Case,\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0feisty,\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0for sure.\u00a0Maybe I\u00a0got the best of him when we were\u00a0younger, and\u00a0then backed off once he got a little taller than me. We have our battles, but growing up it was just competing. We had a bunch of good\u00a0buddies\u00a0in the\u00a0neighborhood,\u00a0we were just playing anything we could, whether\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0football outside, baseball, wiffle ball,\u00a0literally anything, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0just competing. Usually some tears\u00a0came, some fights, but it helped us all out, and I think\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0the biggest part of our competitive\u00a0spirit,\u00a0competitiveness.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On his rivalry with his brother\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n
It\u2019s\u00a0very competitive. I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want to lose to\u00a0him,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0tell you that for sure. It\u00a0definitely gets\u00a0chippy,\u00a0maybe more\u00a0on the slashing end,\u00a0maybe not\u00a0trying to\u00a0run\u00a0each other, but it\u00a0definitely gets\u00a0chippy.\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0say a lot more now that\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0grown up and a little more mature, not resorting to violence as much.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a little more verbal\u00a0\u2013\u00a0verbal\u00a0arguments, just yelling back and forth at each other\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0say is the most. We have some good matches on the ice, on the course. Wherever we can,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0usually\u00a0getting\u00a0at\u00a0it. We spend a lot of time together, so obviously\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0going to butt\u00a0heads.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On his goals for the summer\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n
For me,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0just the\u00a0Summer\u00a0Showcase, have a good showing there, and then get ready for the season.
