Former Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> and Edmonton Oilers<\/a> goaltender Jack Campbell has announced his retirement after nine NHL seasons. <\/p>\n

Campbell made the announcement on Instagram, noting he is transitioning to a new career as an identity and performance coach with Novus Global. <\/p>\n

\u201cWalking away from hockey wasn\u2019t easy. It gave me more than I could have ever imagined. But over the last few years, I realized the work that brought me the most fulfillment wasn\u2019t stopping pucks \u2014 it was helping people become who they\u2019re capable of becoming,\u201d Campbell captioned a video explaining his future.<\/p>\n

Campbell spent last season out of the league after playing in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2024-25 under a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. <\/p>\n

He was assigned to the Griffins after starting the season in the NHL\/NHLPA Players Assistance Program.<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up my entire life chasing one dream, and that was to play in the NHL,\u201d Campbell said in the video. \u201cI was fortunate enough to accomplish that goal, playing eight seasons in the NHL and becoming an NHL all-star. Frankly, on paper, (I was) living a pretty awesome life.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuper grateful for my days of playing, but what a lot of people don\u2019t see is the personal battle I went through throughout my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Drafted 11th overall by the Dallas Stars<\/a> in 2010, Campbell had a career NHL record of 93-52-18 with a .909 save percentage and 2.76 GAA split between the Stars, Los Angeles Kings<\/a>, Maple Leafs, and Oilers. <\/p>\n

The 34-year-old\u2019s most successful season came with Toronto in 2021-22, when he posted a 31-9-6 record with a .914 save percentage and a 2.64 GAA. <\/p>\n

He signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Oilers the following summer but was bought out after just two seasons and 41 games played for the team.
