The Montreal Canadiens announced on Monday that Derek Lalonde has been hired as an associate coach, joining Martin St. Louis\u2019s staff. <\/p>\n

Lalonde was recently let go as one of the assistant coaches with the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> after he spent one season under Craig Berube, who was fired in May with new management coming in. <\/p>\n

Lalonde spent two seasons as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings<\/a> (2022-24), where the team went 89-86-23 in 198 regular-season games as the team missed the playoffs both years in his tenure. <\/p>\n

The 53-year-old also spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>, helping the team win back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021. <\/p>\n
