He\u2019s a familiar face, and he is the <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/2026-06-25-report-ryan-mougenel-departing-bruins-organization\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eighth straight assistant coach<\/a> to be promoted to the head spot in Providence. The Bruins are also bringing in a new assistant coach who spent the last four years in the USHL. Further, the new assistant spent this past season with Bruins prospect Cooper Simpson, who finished second in USHL scoring and <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/2026-07-22-bruins-prospect-rankings-the-top-five\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sits fourth on our big board<\/a>. Simpson is currently playing for Team USA at the World Junior Summer Showcase.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the topic of third-rounders, the Bruins\u2019 2008 third-round pick is calling it a career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elsewhere around the league, the price for Cutter Gauthier has gone up, and, funny enough, you can look at Philadelphia for the reason why. Nick Foligno opened up on his decision to stay in Minnesota, but also pitched a case for Quinn Hughes to stick around. Oilers\u2019 players gathered at Zach Hyman\u2019s charity golf tournament, then were asked about their new head coach. There was a small minor-league swap.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also more villains to look at, projected lines, and a recap from yesterday\u2019s action in Windsor, Ontario.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Happy Tuesday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/category\/bruins-daily\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Bean<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Boston Bruins<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/2026-07-27-providence-bruins-promote-whitfield-round-out-coaching-staff\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WHITFIELD\/WARD<\/a>: The Bruins named <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/tag\/trent-whitfield\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trent Whitfield<\/a> as the 14th head coach in <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/tag\/providence-bruins\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Providence Bruins<\/a>\u2019 franchise history. <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\/tag\/ryan-ward\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Ward<\/a> is joining his staff as an assistant. Don Sweeney announced the hires yesterday, saying Whitfield\u2019s \u201cability to create a winning culture while prioritizing player development will help prepare our players for success at the NHL level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whitfield has spent the last 10 seasons working as an assistant on the Providence bench, working under the likes of Kevin Dean, Jay Leach, and Ryan Mougenel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ward has spent the last four seasons as the head coach of the Youngstown Phantoms and won a Clark Cup championship in 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NHL News &amp; National Hockey Now<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NHLJets\/status\/2081845103681995172?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">Winnipeg Jets (via \ud835\udd4f)<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/michael-hutchinson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Hutchinson<\/a> retired after 11 NHL seasons (154 GP, 57-62-18). The Bruins drafted the goaltender in the third round (No. 77) of the 2008 NHL draft, and he played 87 games with the P-Bruins (39-37-5) before signing with the Jets in 2013.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">After 11 seasons in the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NHL?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">@NHL<\/a>, Michael Hutchinson has called it a career.<\/p>\n<p>Congrats Hutch!
