Kent Hughes isn’t afraid to test the trade market.<\/p>\n

The Athletic reporter shed light on how the Canadiens’ general manager operates, describing an aggressive approach that leaves nothing to chance.<\/p>\n

His observations came from conversations with people around the league.<\/p>\n

The picture that emerges is of a GM who isn’t afraid to stir things up.<\/p>\n

“My sense from talking to people around the league is that Habs GM Kent Hughes has not been shy about calling about guys who likely aren’t even available.”<\/p>\n

He then gave a concrete example.<\/p>\n

“He called the Islanders about Bo Horvat,” LeBrun added.<\/p>\n

That says a lot about Hughes’ mindset.<\/p>\n

Calling about an established center like Horvat, even with no indication that he’s on the market, takes guts.<\/p>\n

Kent Hughes keeps pushing the trade market<\/p>\n

A lot of GMs wait until a player is officially made available before picking up the phone.<\/p>\n

Hughes gets out in front of it.<\/p>\n

It hasn’t paid off so far this summer, but it’s clearly a strategy that can deliver results over the long term.<\/p>\n

You never know when a situation might change, and being the first to call can make the difference.<\/p>\n

Hughes is clearly exploring every possible avenue.<\/p>\n

That aggressive approach also explains why so many names keep being linked to Montreal.<\/p>\n

A GM who calls around the league is bound to keep the rumor mill moving.<\/p>\n

Still, most of those calls haven’t led anywhere for now.<\/p>\n
