There is one month until Boston Bruins<\/a>\u2019 rookie camp opens.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a dull time in the NHL news cycle<\/a>, but the Bruins released their jersey numbers yesterday. JJ Peterka can\u2019t wear No. 77 here, for obvious reasons, but Connor Clifton gets 75 back. James Hagens<\/a> is sticking to No. 44, but during his first practice in Boston, he explained why he picked that number<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sportsnet also takes a stab at the 10 captain vacancies throughout the league.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in NHL news, one book has a Flyers rookie ahead in the Calder Trophy race. The Oilers and Maple Leafs both brought in a veteran goalie, and there are some options in the draft for the Red Wings to look at if they move on from Dylan Larkin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There is also a fan poll on the Rangers head coach, more on the Devils\u2019 unorthodox goaltending rotation, and some news on the Dallas Stars\u2019 planned move north to Plano, Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Boston Bruins<\/p>\n

JERSEY NUMBERS<\/a>: The Bruins rolled out five new jersey numbers ahead of the 2026-27 season. Aside from the biggest offseason addition in JJ Peterka<\/a>, who is returning to a number he wore in juniors, Ivan Ivan<\/a>, Will Borgen<\/a>, and Lukas Reichel<\/a> all got new numbers, while Connor Clifton<\/a> is getting his number back.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Boston Pro Shop (via \ud835\udd4f)<\/a>: Peterka jerseys are already on sale at the Boston Pro Shop<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

NHL News & National Hockey Now<\/p>\n

Sportsnet<\/a>: There are 10 teams without a captain, including the Bruins. Sportsnet\u2019s Josh Benetau picks captains for each of the vacancies. I\u2019ll let you read the article and Benetau\u2019s reasoning for his choice in Boston, but I\u2019ll tell you he starts with \u201cFranchise legends.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Philly Hockey Now<\/a>: The Philadelphia Flyers have never had a Calder Trophy winner in their 59-year history. Could Porter Martone<\/a> be the first? He\u2019s an early betting favorite, just slightly ahead of Gavin McKenna<\/a> in Toronto. Will James has more on the Michigan State Spartan who was drafted one spot ahead of James Hagens.<\/p>\n

TSN<\/a>: The Oilers and Maple Leafs both opted for veteran goaltenders this summer. Edmonton brought in Frederik Andersen<\/a>, while the Leafs signed Sergei Bobrovsky<\/a>. TSN\u2019s Travis Yost looks at what we can expect from the two veteran netminders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Detroit Hockey Now<\/a>: It goes without saying, but if the Detroit Red Wings move on from Dylan Larkin<\/a>, they\u2019ll need to replace him. Can they look at the 2027 draft class? Next year\u2019s draft class is littered with talent down the middle, so Max Smith takes an early look at some of the names available at the top of next year\u2019s draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Forever Blueshirts<\/a>: The majority of Rangers fans are \u201cconfident\u201d in Mike Sullivan. The Marshfield native (and BC High grad) took the helm last year, but after one rocky season, he sits with a 63% approval rating. Not all Rangers fans are seeing eye to eye, though. New Jersey Hockey Now<\/a>: New Jersey had a problem in goal entering the offseason, so they found a trade partner for Jacob Markstrom<\/a>. Now they\u2019re without a true No. 1, instead operating with a three-goalie rotation. Daniel Amoia writes why the unorthodox goaltending plan makes sense.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh Hockey Now<\/a>: Tanner Howe<\/a>, drafted in the 2024 second round, has gone through the wringer in his two post-draft seasons. It started with a shoulder injury and continued with a torn ACL. Dan Kingerski had the opportunity to speak to the Penguins\u2019 prospect, and Howe spoke about his journey.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dallas Stars (via \ud835\udd4f)<\/a>: The Dallas Stars are planning a move 22 miles north to Plano, Texas. Yesterday, the team released some renderings of the proposal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to CBS Texas reporter Amelia Mugavero<\/a>, the Plano City Council unanimously voted to move forward with the funding plan for the arena. The city will put $700 million on the table. The vote didn\u2019t approve the arena or the funding, just put the plan on a ballot in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n
