FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – The University of North Dakota men\u2019s hockey team is about two months away from dropping the puck on their upcoming season.<\/p>\n
Before then, though, some members of the squad decided to come down to Fargo and spread some cheer to kids in need of a pick-me-up.<\/p>\n
Defenseman EJ Emery and incoming goalie Alex Scheiwiller hung out with patients staying in the children\u2019s wing of Sanford\u2019s main campus hospital on 23rd Avenue.<\/p>\n
They signed autographs, helped color pictures, and generally had a great time in Cully\u2019s Kids Cabin, an activity space created by the foundation of Moorhead hockey legend Matt Cullen.<\/p>\n
Both players said that representing UND in this capacity made for a fulfilling experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people look up to us on the hockey team, and the hockey team means a lot to a lot of people in this community and a lot of people around, so it\u2019s super special,” said Emery.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe biggest thing is just to make them smile, to have a lot of fun with them and brighten their days,” added Scheiwiller.<\/p>\n
Emery was drafted 30th overall by the New York Rangers in 2024 and is currently rated as the 5th best prospect in their organization.<\/p>\n
Scheiwiller is a new addition to the team this year as their projected third-string goalie. He’s fresh off a sparkling season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he won AJHL Goaltender of the Year and was named the AJHL playoff MVP after his Canmore Eagles won the title.<\/p>\n
