Instead, he\u2019s delighted to be writing a new chapter in Sweden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A member of the AHL <a href=\"https:\/\/griffinshockey.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Grand Rapids Griffins<\/a> last season after the Red Wings acquired him in a late-season trade, Stachowiak signed a two-year contract with \u00d6rebro in Sweden\u2019s top division, the SHL.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s my first season in the SHL, so it will be a new chapter for me, but I think my playing style will fit very well,\u201d Stachowiak told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressen.se\/sport\/hockey\/shl\/wojciech-stachowiak-klar-for-orebro-hockey\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Swedish website Expressen<\/a>. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to get started and experience the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to coming to \u00d6rebro, a team that is ready to be there and fight at the top and win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Red Wings Let Stachowiak Walk<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coming to the Red Wings in a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Stachowiak put up 15 points in 10 games for the Griffins. He thought that would be enough to earn a new contract with the Detroit organization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He thought wrong. The Red Wings didn\u2019t tender him a qualifying offer, making Stachowiak an unrestricted free agent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe negotiated and talked a lot,\u201d Stachowiak told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eishockeynews.de\/artikel\/die-richtige-chance-finden-stachowiak-verfolgt-weiter-nhl-traum-1237417\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">German website Eishockey News<\/a>. \u201cIn the end, it didn\u2019t sound like a priority for them to bring me into the NHL.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00d6rebro made Stachowiak a priority after the club lost Finnish forward Teemu Turunen. He recently announced the requirement to remain in Finland for family reasons. They wound up buying Stachowiak out of a contract with Ingolstadt in Germany\u2019s top league, the DEL. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s great to be able to step up and welcome Wojciech to us,\u201d \u00d6rebro sports director Henrik L\u00f6wdahl told Expressen. \u201cHe\u2019s coming off a really strong end to the season in the AHL.
