Before the puck drops in real life on Sept. 29 for a new NHL season, hockey fans can get a taste of virtual action on Sept. 11 (or Sept. 4 with the deluxe edition or by subscribing to EA Play) in NHL 27. Whether you play the game or not, one thing that always seeps out into the real world is the game\u2019s player ratings. There\u2019s already been some buzz with Connor McDavid being named the game\u2019s first-ever 99 overall player<\/a>, opening the door for the hockey version of the Madden franchise\u2019s more well-known 99 club.<\/p>\n

The Philadelphia Flyers do not have a 99 overall. Or a 98 (there isn\u2019t one; Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov are next at 97). We don\u2019t know the ratings of every player in Orange and Black; only the top 300 players by overall are currently listed on the game\u2019s website, along with the individual attributes that drive the final number. But that still encompasses a good amount of the 2026-27 Flyers roster.<\/p>\n

Flyers Ratings<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not all quantity, though, as two players cracked the game\u2019s top 100 players. It\u2019s no surprise that Travis Sanheim<\/a> is the team\u2019s top-rated player coming off another regular season of top-pair caliber play plus an Olympic silver medal and his first playoff run in six years. Sanheim is rated at 88 overall, and while he\u2019s listed as a left defenseman, he would\u2019ve been the game\u2019s eighth-best right defenseman if he were listed on his off side, which he\u2019s said he prefers playing in the past.<\/p>\n

Also at 88 overall is his first-name-mate Travis Konecny<\/a>, whose rough playoff run didn\u2019t overshadow another steady regular season in the developers\u2019 eyes. Konecny has been between 24 and 31 goals and 61 and 76 points each of the last four seasons, emerging as a steady top-line winger. He\u2019s the last member of the top-100 players, with Sanheim listed at 90th.<\/p>\n

Sanheim is one of only two Philadelphia defensemen to crack the top 300, with Cam York just sneaking in at 285th with an 84 rating. Of the 10 Flyers with available ratings, all but York and Dan Vladar have at least one X-factor, situation-specific boosts that trigger to replicate players\u2019 unique skills.<\/p>\n

Still, it would\u2019ve been stunning to see Vladar on this list a year ago. Now, he\u2019s arguably the most underrated Flyer, ranking outside the top 20 goalies at an 85 overall. Vladar was much better than that in 2025-26, when he was 10th in goals saved above expected in the regular season and second in the playoffs, per Moneypuck.com<\/a>. He doesn\u2019t have the track record as some of the other netminders above him, but a hot start to 2026-27 could earn him an early jump in the game\u2019s roster updates.<\/p>\n

The Flyers are most represented up front. Former cover star Trevor Zegras earns a nice bump after a strong first season in Philly, climbing to 87 overall (and yes, he\u2019s listed as a center, albeit with just a 72 faceoff ability). That four-overall jump is one of the largest in the entire game from the start of NHL 26, with only Matthew Schaefer showing a larger climb on a graphic the game posted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite a sometimes trying sophomore season, Matvei Michkov still has a solid 86 rating and is the last Flyer in the top 200, along with the Travises and Zegras. Owen Tippett\u2019s 85 overall isn\u2019t anything too special, but as always, he\u2019s a game-breaker in the skating attributes. Only McDavid and MacKinnon have a higher speed rating than Tippett\u2019s 94, and his 92 acceleration is also top-tier.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg aren\u2019t listed for rights issues or just not making the cut, but if it\u2019s the latter, no Calder-eligible player has a higher rating than Porter Martone\u2019s 84. He also has the Tape to Tape X-Factor to boost his passing after recording 11 assists in his first 20 NHL games between the regular season and playoffs.<\/p>\n

Defensive-minded centers Noah Cates and Sean Couturier just make the cut as the 297th and 300th players on the list, both at 84 overall. Both share the Quick Pick X-Factor for blocking passes at a higher level, with Couturier also having an X-factor to aid his 84 faceoff rating and Cates one to amplify his strength in puck battles after earning recognition in Selke Trophy voting<\/a>, his second time earning votes for the award that Couturier won in 2019-20.<\/p>\n

How the Flyers Compare<\/p>\n

Philadelphia\u2019s place in the game is similar to where they stand in real-life: ample depth, but lacking in high-end talent. Only five teams have fewer top 100 players than Philadelphia\u2019s two: the Chicago Blackhawks (Connor Bedard), St. Louis Blues (Robert Thomas) and San Jose Sharks (Macklin Celebrini) have one, and the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks are shut out to start the season. Five Metropolitan Division teams have more than the Flyers, too.<\/p>\n

However, 10 top 300 players is a pretty impressive mark. It ranks sixth in the Eastern Conference, with the Florida Panthers leading the way with 15 (they\u2019re tied with the Montr\u00e9al Canadiens and Dallas Stars for the most top 100 players with six). Only one Western Conference team, the Colorado Avalanche with 13, has more. And there\u2019s a good chance that Jamie Drysdale and Tyson Foerster are right around the 84 overall mark and could jump into the mix with strong seasons.<\/p>\n
