The San Jose Sharks enter the 2026–27 season with a reshaped roster after a busy offseason that saw them add veteran stability on the blue line and scoring punch, while parting ways with several key young players. The moves signal a win-now approach, leaning on a young core and adding experienced pieces to push for a playoff run.

Key Additions

Jacob Trouba (D) – Signed a four-year, $33 million deal ($8.25 million AAV) on July 1st. The 32-year-old brings physicality, veteran leadership, and top-four minutes.

Darnell Nurse (D) – Acquired from Edmonton on July 1st in exchange for Shakir Mukhamadullin and Zack Sharp. The 31-year-old left-shot defenseman brings size, mobility, and top-four minutes.

Mason Marchment (LW) – Signed a five-year, $33.75 million deal ($6.75 million AAV) on July 1st. The 31-year-old scored 19 goals and 26 assists in 68 games last season. He brings physicality, scoring punch, and middle-six depth.

Michael Kesselring (D) – Acquired from Buffalo on June 17th in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick. The 26-year-old right-shot defenseman brings puck-moving ability, offensive upside, and third-pairing minutes.

Eric Comrie (G) – Signed a two-year, $2.3 million deal ($1.15 million AAV) on July 1st. The 31-year-old provides goaltending depth behind Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedelkovic, expected to serve as the backup.

Ivar Stenberg (C) – Drafted second overall in the 2026 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old center brings elite skill, two-way play, and NHL-ready potential, expected to compete for a top-nine role.

Shakir Mukhamadullin (D) – Traded to Edmonton in the Nurse deal. The 24-year-old left-shot defenseman had 10 assists in 67 games, a notable loss of youth and puck-moving ability.

Mario Ferraro (D) – Departed in free agency. The 28-year-old left-shot defenseman had 10 assists in 67 games, removing veteran presence and stability from the third pairing.

Pavol Regenda (LW) – Departed in free agency. The 26-year-old left-wing had 10 goals and 18 points in 68 games, a loss of veteran depth and scoring.

Ryan Reaves (RW) – Departed in free agency. The 39-year-old had 10 goals and 18 points in 68 games, removing grit and physicality from the bottom six.

Impact on 2026–27

The Sharks’ have visions of the playoffs next season. Trouba, Nurse, and Kesselring add veteran stability and depth to the defense, while Marchment bolsters forward scoring. The departures of Eklund, Ferraro, and Klingberg remove youth and veteran presence, but the additions should push San Jose up the standings. Expect the Sharks to be in the playoff hunt, with a deeper, more balanced lineup pushing for their first postseason appearance since 2019.
