Tristan Jarry\u2019s difficult start with the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> in the 2026-27 NHL<\/a> season has drawn another sharp assessment from Pittsburgh-based analyst Josh Yohe.<\/p>\n

Yohe, who works for The Athletic, highlighted Jarry\u2019s recent struggles while praising Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas for completing the December trade that sent Jarry to Edmonton.<\/p>\n

\u201cJarry has started in 18 games as a member of the Oilers,\u201d Yohe wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s allowed 4 or more goals in 10 of his last 12 starts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yohe then listed Jarry\u2019s goals allowed across those 18 starts. The stretch included six games allowing five or more goals and one seven-goal night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat Dubas was able to trade him for heavy return remains astonishing,\u201d Yohe added.<\/p>\n

Jarry\u2019s latest outing provided more ammunition for the criticism. He allowed six goals on 23 shots during Edmonton\u2019s 6-5 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks.<\/p>\n

The Oilers surrendered three straight third-period goals before mounting a dramatic comeback. Edmonton eventually forced overtime but conceded Paul Cotter\u2019s winner.<\/p>\n

Edmonton acquired Jarry from Pittsburgh on Dec. 12, 2025, in a deal involving Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak and a 2029 second-round pick. The Oilers also received forward Samuel Poulin. Edmonton assumed the remainder of Jarry\u2019s five-year contract, carrying a $5.375 million average annual value.<\/p>\n

Jarry struggled after arriving in Edmonton last season. He posted a 3.86 goals-against average and .858 save percentage across 19 regular-season appearances, including 16 starts. He also dealt with a lower-body injury and eventually lost his starting role. His playoff involvement was limited to one start.<\/p>\n

The Oilers hoped the offseason would provide Jarry with a reset. Instead, his season debut immediately raised questions about Edmonton\u2019s goaltending situation.<\/p>\n

The contrast was especially notable because Evan Bouchard delivered a historic performance. The defenseman scored three goals and added two assists against Vancouver. Vasily Podkolzin also scored twice, including the late equalizer that forced overtime. Those efforts helped Edmonton recover from a 5-2 deficit.<\/p>\n

So, right now, goaltending remains a major variable for Edmonton. The Oilers also have Devon Levi available, creating competition behind Jarry.<\/p>\n

Yohe\u2019s comments reflect how the trade is being viewed from Pittsburgh. For Edmonton, the focus is on whether Jarry can provide greater consistency. The Oilers face Vancouver again Thursday, giving Jarry and the team an immediate opportunity to respond.<\/p>\n
