Sydney Esiason is turning the page on her life as an NHL WAG.<\/p>\n
Shortly after husband Matt Martin announced his retirement<\/a> Tuesday after 16 seasons in the league \u2014 14 of which were with the Islanders \u2014 the mom of four took to X<\/a>, where she reflected on the whirlwind of emotions.<\/p>\n \u201cOfficial retirement from the WAG life,\u201d began Sydney, the daughter of former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason. \u201cAwesome, fun, exhausting, emotional, weird at times and a thankless job so be nice to the next gen.\u201d<\/p>\n Matt Martin with wife Sydney Esaison. Murray for NY Post<\/p>\n A fifth-round pick by the Islanders in the 2008 NHL Draft, Martin played the first seven seasons of his career with the team before agreeing to a four-year, $10 million contract with the Maple Leafs in July 2016.<\/p>\n He was traded back to the Islanders two years later, where he played for the remainder of his career.<\/p>\n Martin played in 987 games and tallied 91 goals, 97 assists and 3,936 hits.<\/p>\n Matt Martin during what would be his final Islanders home game at UBS Arena in April 2025. Instagram<\/p>\n He will now pivot to the Islanders\u2019 front office as a special assistant to general manager Mathieu Darche. <\/p>\n As the Islanders\u2019 season concluded in April, Martin \u2014 who married Sydney in 2019 \u2014 expressed gratitude for his time with the organization.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a special place,\u201d Martin said. \u201cI\u2019ve been so proud to wear this jersey and be a part of this team and community.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026 Through the good and the bad, the heartbreaks, all of it, it\u2019s always been a pleasure to be a part of this team and wear this uniform.\u201d<\/p>\n Matt Martin is now pivoting to the Islanders\u2019 front office as a special assistant to GM Mathieu Darche.
