  1. Man. I remember that period of Kovalchuk. It felt good, even though it was never going to work long term.

He loved every minute of it.

  2. “hOw CoMe EvErYoNe AlWaYs TaLk AbOuT tHe LeAfS” -Literally everyone that has a secret boner for the leafs lol

  3. That’s the best defensive forward in the league right there. Don’t let this video or not being voted anywhere near a finalist for the Bergeron award tell you otherwise.

  4. Hockey is the only sport that I have to watch on slow motion to see what actually happened. Hockey athletes are underrated.

  5. Nick Suzuki’s first shootout goal except it is not a shootout and it’s scored by Ilya Kovalchuk

  6. First off, first reaction to this was “Kovalchuk in the Habs, that’s gotta be an error”, and then upon him scoring all the memories came back.

As for the back-checking, honestly, that’s so on-brand for Matthews. He’s a prolific back-checker in the O-Zone, but if a player is coming back full-speed into the zone I find he’s usually either gassed or just stops and waits for the save. It’s not like he’s a 100% offense 0% defense guy, we know he clearly has great back-checking skills, but so often he just turns it off and the other team gets a grade A scoring chance. And for comparison, I’ve never seen a team just let him skate in like that. Once it goes to OT it just seems like all the defense leaves the building.

  7. Can someone explain to me why this is lazy? Matthew’s is beaten on the breakaway, so I don’t see the need for him to sprint. Doesn’t it make sense for him to play the rebound, which he does although he misses it?

EDIT: Of course I get downvoted for asking a question, Reddit at its finest
