Well, this hasn’t aged well

as well as the other threads of people constantly trashing Gifo months ago before his recall.

  1. What’s the fun of baseball reddit if not for trashing on whatever players happen to be having a bad streak

  2. I used to be a hater of the fugitive. I take back everything i have previously said

  3. I mean, Rengifo was pretty awful until recently so it’s not like it wasn’t deserved. I’m glad it hasn’t aged well though

  4. To me Rengifo is just another example of why we had to rebuild some time ago. He’s looked awful for years but he’s finally developed into a decent hitter. This team keeps putting prospects in this terrible position of you need to contribute now or you’re back to the minors every week. That’s awful for a player’s growth, they need consistency. Most prospects need a couple years of playing every day to look like major leaguers. If you wanna build a contender now you need to spend on guys like Mark Canha and Starling Marte. You gotta go all in. Can’t keep playing rookies at the bottom of the lineup or guys like Velasquez. Imo you either fill the roster with vets or at least guys who have played for a couple years in the Majors or you rebuild and fill your lineup mostly with young guys to let them develop. Right now we’re in between with no team direction.

  5. Prior to him being called up just before that post here was his career numbers over 3 seasons:

    .216/.293/.325 with an OPS+ of 66. 0.3 WAR. 22.4% SO rate. And an RE24 of -33.1.

I’m pretty sure we were justified in our complaints at that time.
