No Leyland?
19 inductees? They’ll have to induct Randall Simon by 2025
This is Kent Tekulve erasure
no Sean Rodriguez?
Kent Tekulve, Kent Tekulve, Kent Tekulve…
HOW THE FUCK DO YOU MISS KENT TE-FUCKING-KULVE???
I wish they did this like the Steelers Hall of Honor. That is go out of your way to recognize guys that should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, but got snubbed. Glad they got it right with Dave Parker.
The Warren Morris disrespect is real.
The Hall of Fame is a fine idea but why are we doing this like this?
Why not just make it four or five guys every year? That would give it some real potency for many years to come given the Pirates’ long history.
Is it really the worst thing to have Dave Parker, for example, go in as part of the third or fourth induction class?
I don’t think so.
What would be the worst thing in the world for a team that struggles to draw positive attention to have some spirited debates throughout the summer about which player of yore deserves induction in this year‘s class?
Again, I would say no.
I know they just want to establish a beachhead and have a solid class of 19 to start but I don’t think that’s the right way to approach something like this.
By doing it this way, now, it loses some of it specialness.
Also, I understand that he’s a total dick but Barry Bonds has to be in this grouping.
What are we doing? We don’t have to like him. Personally, I can’t stand him. However, if you have an ounce of integrity you have to acknowledge that if you’re going to do something like this, you have to include a guy who has a legitimate argument as the best player to ever play for the Pirates; and who is inarguably one of their 19 all-time greatest players.
In this thread: half the people complaining the class is too large, the other half complaining the class is too small
this is like double the size i thought it would be. the only guys i thought had to be first class are here: Clemente, Gibson, i figured Blass would be as the “Face”. Happy Pops made it “first ballot” as it were. I figured at least one of the Waners and Arky Vaughn would be included. Gonna have to learn more about teh rest of the class (not saying I know A TON about any of these guys but still). Cool though
John Wehner robbed again!
Why didn’t they do it at a home game? They could have made it a whole event
Honestly if players are in the MLB HoF the Pirates should have just grandfathered them into the Buccos Hall. Living players that didn’t make it into the MLB Hall but were perhaps borderline should be the main focus of this inaugural event.
The two glaring omissions are Dick Groat and Vernon Law. Get these guys in there while they are still with us
Personally, my max for the first class would have been 10 so you can induct a few more year after year but all these guys are absolutely deserving so not gonna complain
Wait, where’s Tony Pena? One of the few great players they had in the 80s!
