Gobert on Embiid playing for France: “Joel is a unique player and we have a team that is well-knit…There’s no player in the world like him. So, yes, I would like to see him one day with the jersey of the French. It’s up to the Coach to decide. But no one can really say no to a talent like him.”

  1. “it’s up to the coach to decide”

Dawg, his decision is whether to even give you minutes at this point.

  2. Sounds like he is saying…

“It’s a well knit team” as in he might mess it up and I don’t want him to come.

And “it’s up to the coach to decide” as in “I hope the coach says no, and me lying and saying I want him to join is meaningless.

And “you can’t really say no” as “I wish I could say no, because I don’t wNt him to join the team, but there’s no valid reason to keep him out besides my own pettiness.

  3. I’m already tired of this stuff. Joel is an adult that can do whatever he wants. He hasn’t even said anything about wanting or planning to play for the national team. It’s just become a vehicle for /r/nba’ers to voice their disdain for Embiid, or mild racism.
