  1. That part. I love that Brandon Staley puts the game on his team’s shoulders. As a fan, I’d much rather watch my team try to WIN the game versus playing on their heels and trying not to lose. I’ve spent over a decade of watching Norv Turner, Mike McCoy, and Anthony Lynn coach scared and make safe decisions. That largely led to losing seasons and disappointment in the postseason. Be aggressive. Let your best players determine the outcome. I can live with it if they don’t get it done. Just give them the opportunity.

  2. It really is a crazy burden this dude carries with the analytics push. If he succeeds, he is going to be a maverick in the sport, if he fails, a laughingstock. Reminds me of Moneyball and the whole “It’s always tough for the first one through the wall”

  3. > The history of this team when I got here, it was like someone’s going to get hurt, they’re going to blow a lead, something catastrophic is going to happen. There’s this ‘Chargering’ thing. There’s all of these external factors that I know in my life, they’re just all excuses. They’re just all excuses.

    I love staley.

  4. I love Brandon Staley and think he is already one of the best coaches in the league.

But calling a time out against the Raiders as the clock was winding down in week 18 last season was perhaps the biggest coaching blunder in NFL regular season history.

How can you be smart enough to go for it on 4th down inside your own 20 but not smart enough to realize your opponent is gonna run the clock out instead of risking a bad snap and turning the ball over with only seconds left in the game? The Raiders would have kneeled. Staley stopped the clock with the timeout and forced their hand. That time out forced the Raiders to kick the field goal, which they of course made. It would have been a tie. That call prevented them from going to the playoffs.
