  1. This man has had a wonderful impact on my life. As a kid I’d play basketball til late at night on Fridays at the Amaechi centre, some of my teammates went on to receive scholarships to the states. His own success made that dream seem possible. One of the local teams was Manchester Magic, I wonder why!

I bumped into him once, like literally, though I didn’t know later until my father told me – wasn’t looking up. So extremely proud he is from my part of the world and so grateful for the gift of basketball that he helped give to so many – what’s more is that is just a footnote in his achievements so far.

This is a brilliant, illuminating read. What an utterly gifted articulator.

  2. such a fascinating guy, with a sharp intellect and a diverse range of interests. as a Magic fan, I’ll always love him for snubbing the Lakers to stay in Orlando for the minimum. as a human being, I’ll always admire his courage to come out publicly in a world that can be unkind to people like him.

*”I’m not asking other people to be gay. It’s not going to seep out of my pores into other people. You do you. I am not going to church on a Sunday; I’m not going to pray to a God I can’t see. And you don’t have to kiss blokes. It never felt that complicated.”*
