[Conway] In the first set of 11s with Joe Burrow under center, #Bengals rookie guard Cordell Volson took the first snaps at starting left guard. Second team? Trey Hill. Jackson Carman has yet to go in. It’s looking like he’s slipped from first-team to 3rd string

  1. Can’t believe we used a second round pick on that guy. Wild that a 4th round rookie from a small school is able to beat out a guy with NFL playing experience.

  2. I thought Carman was being held out with an injury. If he’s suited up, this is good news.

  3. I’ve been complaining about Carman since draft day. Glad to see others coming around.

  4. If Volson came in and won the LG spot as a rookie that would be incredible. He would be my hero

  5. I am wanting more tape on Volson. I am cautiously optimistic, but the fact of the matter is that *someone* has to win the starting job. The fact that Volson is first string doesn’t mean he is doing well, necessarily, it could just mean he isn’t doing as poorly as the other guys. Hill has already received game time and looked very underwhelming, so the fact that Carman is potentially behind him is really damning. Here’s hoping that Volson is the real deal.

  6. I said it over a year ago and I will say it now. Carman was drafted because Alexander and Anderson told Mike Brown he was some amazing physical specimen with a high ceiling. Seems like the old man bought a bill of goods from two people who were literally hired by the propsect for training purposes. Its a self serving model. You trained the guy so if he sucks then what good are you? So you sell the kid because the higher he gets drafted the better your resume is. In short, they snookered him.

Cincinnati was the only team even thinking of taking this kid that early. And now we’ve paid for it. Maybe a move back to OT is the best bet here. Kid clearly cant play guard. Not sure Prince or Adeniji can play OT competently. Maybe Carman gives us a better option there. Highly unlikely but we see the results at OG. A position hes never played until he became a pro.

It sure seems like this is going to be a wasted pick but the kid has at least the rest of this season to figure it out from the bench. God help us if he’s pressed into actual duty in a game that matters.

  7. Carman had one of the worst OL performances I’ve ever seen against 2nd and 3rd stringers

  8. Third string seems a bit too high for him. I will admit when we traded down I was hoping we may be selecting Brady Christensen (receipt: https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/mydqmi/whos_your_draft_crush/gvvf2tx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) who I loved. I was stunned we drafted Carman but I was hoping he would become another one of those long line of Bengals second round gems. Looks to be instead a draft bust.
