Because Steve Yzerman is a bad GM, duh
He had a M-NTC…probably didn’t want to come here, and we already have a ton of middle 6 forwards
One reason I can think of is that we are further ahead in our rebuild than Habs and Yzerman may not be interested to wait for 1st round pick to be selected in 2025 or 2026 and be ready for NHL likely by 2027 or 2028 since the pick will be in the latter half of the 1st round. That’s potentially 6 years of wait for your return on investment
His offensive game completely vanished the last 2 seasons, He had hip surgery last off-season, and had a putrid year last year. Lots of Flames fans are glad he’s out, it’s been that bad the last 2 years.
8 goals and 15 assists in 64 games with a -15 rating on a Stanley Cup contending team. 3 straight years of decline since 2018.
Edit: And hip surgery last off-season.
Probably didn’t want to take on his cap hit and lose roster flexibility/cap space after the moves this off-season
Because we already picked up Perron and Copp for our forwards
We don’t need to be on every player that is being shopped…even if picks come with him. Maybe he doesn’t fit our system, maybe he’s toxic in the locker room, maybe he lacks the drive Stevie wants, maybe we don’t have roster space. The list can go on and on. Trust the Yzerplan
