[Curran] If it was good enough for the ’04 Patriots to play Tom Brady a TON in the preseason, it’s good enough for the ’22 Patriots. And don’t you “but joint practices…” me!

  1. I always laugh at sports reporters telling coaches how they should run their team, especially when it comes to BB.

  2. He’s not wrong in pointing out the hypocrisy. Bill never batted an eye about playing guys in preseason. Now he’s hiding players. Might be strategy…might be because he knows they aren’t ready. We’ll find out soon enough.

  3. I don’t hate Curran like some people here do, and I sorta get where he is coming from on playing in preseason, though it kinda looks like filling a quota/clearing the drawer for things to write about. But then you get statements like “Mac is the best thing to happen to this team in the last 5 years, and that includes winning a Super Bowl in 2018” in the attached video. I get it, it’s NBC, but ease it with the shock jock stuff lol.

Also, I really like Mac and even watched the draft (which I usually never watch) hoping we would take him in 2020. But if after spending three years straight with the likes of Saban, O’Brien, Sarkisian, McDaniels, and Bill Belichick, probably the best development team you can ask for in college and your first year in the pros, is permanently ruined because he only has Belichick to talk to on Tuesdays, then maybe he isn’t the guy. Let’s not infantilize him.

  4. I agree. I want to see Mac and some starters play and I want them to start gaining a rhythm. Our first 4 games are really tough, if we’re not careful this season can go off the rails really quickly.

  5. Tom E. is such a troll, I almost kind of respect him for it – his stuff is always fun to read.

  6. Belichick has found something that he feels works better for his team. Just like Curran has found publishing the worst hot takes and being a Brady ball washing old crone works better to drive the clicks to his damn articles.

  7. I really dislike Curran. I think I like him the least of the entire NE Sports Media establishment. Dude has never had an insightful thought and vastly overestimates both his intelligence and worth. You know you’ve lost any niche you might have had when you have the old QB’s dad on as a quarterly guest.

  8. This guy is an embarrassment, a joke. Who give a shit what he says or thinks? Lol.. irrelevance personified

  9. For a guy that won and wins so much, the boson media tears them apart constantly. There is never good news, even in the years they won it all.

I just don’t care what curran has to say anymore.

  10. I don’t think Bill thought of Brady as THE guy yet. He built a great defense and most likely attributes their early success in them and Brady not messing it up. Now, Jones is THE guy and Bill isn’t taking chances of throwing the season away if Jones gets hurt.

  11. But why risk injuries in meaningless games? I can kinda understand where he’s coming from, but I wouldn’t take that chance.

  12. I see what he’s saying, but mindsets change over 20 years. Maybe Bill’s perspective on playing his starting QB in preseason games isn’t the same as it was before, not the craziest thing tbh.

  13. has his reasons. Honestly, IDFC other than being a tad jealous of not getting to see him play much tonight.

  14. This is laughable coming from the same Boston sports media that KILLED Bill for Gronk breaking his arm blocking on an extra point in an actual game back in 2011

  15. ’04 was 18 years ago. Times have changed. Methods have changed. I’m glad Belichick has adapted and changed with the times because many of the coaches who think like Curran is thinking here got passed up by the game.

  16. I mean a lot of things about the NFL have changed since 2004… It’d honestly be a lot more concerning if he wasn’t evolving with new best practices like protecting the most valuable players on the team from injuries in truly meaningless games.

I bet the Jets wish they did after what happened to Zach Wilson.

  17. “this is what it was like 18 years ago, so it should be like this now!” – great take

  18. All starters played more in pre season in the 00’s sense then coachs have started sitting guys more to avoid injury and give the guys fighting for roster spots more evaluation time.

  19. Tom Curran questions everything they do now. Hope he and his family are getting the most of of the TB12 center.

  20. I disagree. I think people have reassessed what pre-season means relative to the injury risk?.
