[Kurt Warner] Ppl, ppl, ppl… he never got to Aiyuk in progression, don’t coach after the fact! He took a shot to his best player 1on1 w/ press coverage… you can argue on 3rd & short to take a higher % throw… but you can understand why! BUT what u can’t do is say he should have thrown to BA!

  2. Yeah that’s basically what I’ve been saying. With the OL playing poorly, I don’t blame Trey for just throwing to his first read in a 1:1 matchup.

    I think the play call of having treys primary read as a deep shot maybe wasn’t the wisest by Shanahan

  3. I thought it was a smart play as there was contact with the DB when Trey threw. I would venture to guess trey thought he would get the PI if debo wasn’t able to bring it in, and he should have.

  4. It was the right choice. Good ball placement had major chance for an amazing catch and/or PI. If they throw that flag no one’s saying look at BA. These are choices Rodgers and Brady make all the time.

  5. Obviously I have no idea what the play call was, or what was going through Lance’s head, but it’s also preseason. Lance has spent a ton of time throwing to Aiyuk outside of formal practice, maybe Lance just thought why not take a shot to Deebo here.

  6. The line looked great on that play as well. You gotta love that people on here roast Jimmy for not taking deep shots, then simultaneously roast Lance for not taking the short throw. For fucks sake.

  9. It was a good ball. Just great coverage. He took his shot. We also don’t know anything about what’s going on in the huddle.

  11. People bitched SO MUCH about JG never going deep, or under passing them and hitting his check downs.

  12. There’s a bigger chance for a TD with BA than if you pick up the first down and drive it. If he misses the worst that can happen is a punt that will be on their 20.

  13. This route has been the biggest problem in training camp. Deebo has failed repeatedly to get open on these routes and Shanahan is determined to get them working. Reportedly deebo still isn’t back to 100% and has been smothered by our dbs.

    This is why all this overreaction about practice and preseason is way overblown. Kyle has been exposing weakness and trying to correct them through reps. It’s why aiyuk barely has any targets in preseason, not because he is bad but because his game has been solid in camp and is ready and doesn’t need reps.

  15. I mean, one guy is wide open with room to run on the same side of the field as the other guy who is tightly covered.

    If you want to say that it’s preseason and it doesn’t really matter so take a shot, okay. But if it matters, he threw to the wrong guy.
