  1. Per Wikipedia, the unassisted triple play having only occurred 15 times in MLB history under modern rules is more rare than a perfect game.

Fun fact: John Smoltz was the closer that night!

  2. I watched it live and freaked out. Furcal also had a CANNON. I wish they clocked his throws to first base.

  3. I’m pretty sure it was him, but can’t seem to find video of it.

Anyone remember when a dude dropped bat and was running to first the bat landed on the end and stood up?

  4. August 14th, 2004: I was going to my very first Braves game at Turner Field. We were stuck in traffic just past the bridge on Fulton St about to turn right onto Hank Aaron Drive. In my passenger side mirror I see a bright yellow Hummer H2 pull up onto the sidewalk and start squeezing past the traffic.
As the truck passed me I see the driver and it’s none other than Rafael Furcal and he was running late. He crept up the sidewalk and made the right turn down Hank Aaron Drive towards the park.

He ended up going 4-5 with 3 RBI and a HR. Chipper hit 2 HR and Pujols hit 2 HR. Braves won 9-7.

Bonus pic of Chipper about to spank a Jason Marquis fastball into the stands.

  5. It’s pretty impressive how quickly the announcer recognized that it was going to be a triple play. Not exactly the most common play to be on the lookout for.

  6. Lol you can see Giles working out in his head how many outs it’s going to be in the last replay
