[PFF] The highest-graded QBs this preseason

  1. I can’t think of any puns for Geno Smith.

Any history of a career backup QB reinvigorating their career after a decade in the league, the last half of which he played less than a full seasons worth of football?

Just asking in case Geno is about to make history.

  2. Chad Pennington wasn’t exactly as late a bloomer as Geno would be, but if you’re looking for a similar ceiling if this works, he might be the guy.

  3. Part of me is worried that Geno is gonna have a 2015 Fitzmagic or 2017 Keenum type season and we win way too many games while not actually having a QB for the future

  4. Amazing what taking absolutely no risks at all does for your PFF score.

Note how many points this amazing PFF score produced…

  5. Run the ball and play great defense and anything is possible tbh. Just look at what Tannehill has done with Tennessee. Dude got with right team and hes played well ever since. Just don’t put the game in Geno’s hands at the end of the game and you should be around .500 lol.

  6. This entire offseason I have been anti Geno but I’ve come to realize it really doesn’t matter who we start. Geno is more comfortable in the scheme so I think starting him is the right choice but I’d also like to see lock get some PT in the regular season just to see. I hope Geno shreds up denver

  7. this isn’t exactly strong company, just shows how useless PFF preseason grades are

  8. I for years have asked, with Pete’s focus on running the ball, why is there virtually no play action when it comes to the passing game?

  9. This is impressive to me regardless of peoples Opinions of the pre season since the pressure was on Geno to not lose a golden opportunity to be a full time starter. Give the guy credit he worked his butt off. If the d plays better and we run the ball well Geno doesn’t have to throw for 350 yards and 3 tds for us to get a W. Protect the ball and make a couple big time throws that’s all we need to stay with teams and compete every game.

  10. Honestly, I’m really tired of statball. So many fans now read way too far into statistics and completely miss context that it’s a team sport and people are affected by the people around them.

Everyone looks at Geno’s preseason stats having 0 TDs and come to the conclusion that he can’t score. Context: he had at least 7 passes get graded as drops by a shitty receiver.

Drew Lock had “similar” stats, except the turnovers, and actually scored points. Context: Lock was playing against 3rd and 4th stringers, and he had 3 other passes that should have been picked off but the defense dropped it.

Stats can be taken out of context and misleading too, and most people don’t understand that and think they’re smarter than everyone by comparing stats.

  11. I’ll start to believe in Geno when we start scoring. Until then these stats don’t mean much. I feel like Myers will have his work cut out for him this season. I don’t think our defense is quite up to snuff to win dog fights where we’re putting up most of our points via FG’s.

    Time will tell.

  12. Not a surprise. He had a 103 rating last year. Pete preaches conservative QB play and that’s what that does.
