Tonight I’m going at the expense of the ticket office trying to pitch season tickets to me. And deGrom is pitching. And I may see Timmy Trumpet. Sure we lost last night, but it was to the best team in baseball and the braves also lost. I’m feeling pretty good. Happy to be going for free tonight!

June through August has been a gauntlet. But the Mets have been remarkably consistent. No crazy win steaks. But they also have no stretches of any length in which they played 4 games under .500 (pretty sure they are the only team to avoid such a stretch in the league). No losing months.
They are now guaranteed to enter September in first place. There was only one 24 hour stretch in early April in which the Mets were out of first, otherwise they have led the division for the entire season.
September is as easy a schedule as you could have. Nothing is guaranteed, but given the long stretches without deGrom and to a lesser extent without Scherzer, this season has gone way better than any could have hoped for to date.
The Dodgers have a deeper lineup and a deeper bullpen. But deGrom/Scherzer is the best starter duo in the league. And when only needing 2 or 3 innings, I would take the trio of Lugo/Otto/Diaz over any other bullpen backend in the league.
Arguably this is the best shot at a World Series since 1988 (the injuries to the rotation really hampered 2006, and the 2015 got hot at the right time but was not nearly the best team in the league).
