[Cranjis] It’s very fair to be skeptical of any “wait until the trade deadline to make a trade so the team might be a contender” strategy for this Lakers team. — Waiting 56 games into the year to *hope* a big fix solution of a trade becomes available that you can afford isn’t a real plan.

  1. 100% agree with Cranjis here its basically throwing the season away if we wait until the trade deadline. Either do something before the start of the season so we have the regular season to find to perfect the system or leave it as is.

  2. Well we don’t know if AD will be healthy. We hardly saw WB LeBron and AD together. We don’t know how WB will be this year.

There’s a lot of variables just like any team in the league. The Lakers don’t have to wait until the deadline specifically, they know they could get some pieces by trading their picks. But they’re obviously hesitant to do so for the obvious reasons.

  3. If Westbrook changes his approach or leads the second unit, is the team any good? Or is the only way to make this team a contender to do trades that bring more shooting and role players?

  4. Have a strong feeling if we make no more moves, this season is gonna have a lot more pain than last season. And that says a lot.

  5. It’s a huge high risk high reward move for sure. Getting Beverley mitigates that risk a little because at worst you can bring Westbrook off the bench. Lebron/AD/Beverley is a good base for a closing lineup, and and you’re just gambling on at least one of JTA, Reaves, Lonnie, Nunn having 2 way ability.

In terms of this working out, Nets having a bad to mediocre season with KD demanding a trade again is the most likely route. Otherwise the Pacers trade will probably still be available. If Portland looks bad maybe Dame demands a trade but that’s a stretch

  6. He’s either traded before the season or stays the whole season. LeBron was able to get his team to the finals in 2018 with massive changes to the team at deadline.. but that’s just not normal.

  7. Cranjis seems to be a fan of the Pacers trade, it seems as if he thinks it will move the needle enough, so this is another way of him saying the Lakers should do what it takes to make that trade happen.

The people that felt that way about a Kyrie trade said the same thing.

There’s nothing wrong with that view, just not everyone agrees that those moves do enough to get back to being a contender.

My issue is with the portion of people that are in favor of making ANY trade that gets rid of Russ, and taking back players that won’t play because of defense, have bad contracts, having to give up 1sts to make those trades happen. Those trades like the Utah trade get you to maybe the second round in my opinion. Why make a trade if it hurts your future and doesn’t even get you to the Conference Finals?

If the current team is a play in or a first round exit, then that is a failed season, but at least you still have your assets.

If you make the Utah trade and you are a second round exit, then it is just as much of a failed season, but you gave up assets to be mediocre.

If you believe that there is a trade that gets the Lakers to the Conference Finals then that is a trade that should be made.

If the trade isn’t going to get you there, then you are making a move just for the sake of making a move.

The problem is no matter what we think, the front office has to think that a trade moves the needle enough. It doesn’t matter what reddit, or Cranjis, or any other media says…

There’s a reason we are weeks from training camp and we aren’t close to any of the proposed trades, either the front office doesn’t think the moves make a true difference or these teams are asking for more than the Lakers are willing to give up for those trades.

  8. Trade deadline trades never push teams over the edge. They might help you get to the next round, but they’ve never helped a team win a ring.

Lakers need to get a squad together and let them grow throughout the year.

  9. They won’t make a trade with russ at the deadline, they’ll be too low and just punt by then keeping the picks. Either they trade a FRP to the Jazz then another at the deadline or punt with russ

  10. Running it back/punting the season with a soon to be 38 LeBron….just blow it up at that point.
