  1. In hindsight, this looks terrible but IMO it’s a stretch to say that Russ threw that ball bc he was putting himself above the team. He’s never shied away from running the ball, he clearly had his eyes purely downfield looking for the big play. Now obviously this is what probably drove Pete crazy eventually, but this has worked out in so many big moments for Russ that I can understand why he would go back to the well, probably one too many times.

  2. That is such a horrible play that I wonder if Russ didn’t see the defender because the end zone matches his jersey.

  3. So this bad pass is supposed to signify something greater in your mind? He has one of the best TD/INT rates in history, I’m not sure the narrative of he throws too many INT worthy throws really makes much sense.

  4. I dont get where this narrative that Russ put himself above the team came from. None of his teammates have ever come out and said that. Pete takes the blame for part of Russ hero ball stuff imo. The guy was running the ball on first and second down and then asking Russ to pull some shit out of his ass to save us on third down. You can blame Russ for his part in the team not being more successful in the playoff but the fact that Pete and John are skating scott free doesnt sit well with me. All three of them should have been gone

  5. For those wondering about the quote, it’s from [this espn article](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34531802/inside-russell-wilson-seattle-seahawks-drama-led-denver-broncos-trade) and [this other seahawks thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Seahawks/comments/x855eu/brady_henderson_espn_the_divorce_was_inevitable/). The article talks about this play specifically, and includes quote, which in full was:

    >”What are we doing here?” one source in the Seahawks’ front office remembers thinking at the time. “Are we trying to win games or are we trying to win MVP?”

  6. I recall another play where he tried forcing the ball in the endzone didn’t work out well.

Totally agree that he played hero ball too often and that his ego didn’t contribute to our success the lady few years. We’ll see if he’s capable of being at the level of a top tier gunslinger QB in Denver I guess.

  7. Pete during this play: “I shoehorned in an inside WR route on the goal line, in traffic, with the Super Bowl on the line, for this fucking guy to get the glory instead of the running back that helped get us here?”

  8. This article evicerated Wilson and it didn’t make JS look that good either. I think it’s been pretty clear that Russ is all about his brand, but the level that was discussed about his selfish behavior was pretty stunning.
I’m mean – if he wanted to be selfish, WHY DIDNT HE AUDIBLE IN SUPER BOWL!!! That would have been the time to play hero! 🤦🏻‍♂️

  9. I noticed after we started not to have a good defense he would play hero ball and 95% of the time it would work after season of diminishing defenses horrible and o line play but after a while he would make dumb mistakes like throwing a pick instead of picking up a first down , I recall 3rd and 7 play where he ran backwards on a scramble looking for a pass instead of running downfield to take the first

  10. Honestly it looks like a good read but just a bad pass. That receiver was wide open and should have just gotten a bullet pass to the 3 yard line

  11. Such a good pocket, let me roll out and step up at once whilst throwing on the run. Ugh if a rookie made this okay they would sit him down.
