[Madson] – Niners weren’t blitzed and allowed a pressure rate north of 35%. Tbh, I’ve been wrong before, but I don’t think a different QB fixes that.

  1. Jimmy would’ve been sacked a dozen times.

Trey kept it alive with his legs like we want out of our QB (although I don’t think he’ll ever be a Qb who slides, he’s gonna be like cam and others.)

Our offensive line will be the heel of this team.

  2. Trey needs a quicker release, the o line will not be doing him favors all season. There’s a lot he can learn from Jimmy

  3. All I saw way Trey hike it and some defensive player was in his face instantly. Losing Mitchel and Kittle definitely hurt us in this game.

  4. Yes but the national media needs some “hot topics” so yes according to ESPN and FOX. Trey is the worst QB and the Niners are screwed forever

  5. For whatever reason, the Niners seem to be below average in bringing in OL talent through the draft. Hopefully the play improves as the season goes along.

  6. I mean didn’t Alex Mack retire after the draft. What could they have done? Given him Benjamin Button disease?

  7. Aaron banks sucks. Idk why this sub defended him so much last year. The dude didn’t play even though we had injuries to our O line. He was way too expensive to draft in the 2nd round

  8. Been saying forever that Jimmy G was always pressured way too often, specially considering the hype their oline always gets. Lance was supposed to be able to partially negate this, being a mobile qb. Jimmy G wasnt the most athletic or mobile qb before his big injury, but he was still able to scramble when needed to…Hell, he got injured on a play where he scrambled.

Aside from all that tho…Thats west coast offense for ya. The plays, specifically pass plays, typically take longer to develop, overall putting more pressure on the oline and qb. Shannahans 49ers are no different, despite being a run heavy offense and trying to utilize playaction for big, yet long developing, plays.

Just talkin about this in general. This game really coulda went either way, considering the horrible weather and field conditions. They were basically playing water polo…

  9. You hold onto the ball long enough and every snap turns into a pressure. This stat doesn’t mean much without also listing Trey’s average time to throw.

Most NFL starters take about 2.5 seconds to get the ball out. In his 86 dropbacks last year, Trey averaged 3.37 seconds to get the ball off. Only Ian Book was slower out of *any* QB to throw a pass last year (76 recorded QBs by PFF).

I’ll be interested to see what his numbers were this game once PFF has them available.

Edit: For reference, Garoppolo averaged 2.56 seconds to throw on 556 dropbacks last year (ranked 19 out of 76).

  10. Maybe this regime will get the message to stop pissing away top 100 picks on disappointing RBs. You reap what you sow I guess

  11. Who was our right tackle because anytime Lance tried to roll right there was almost always a bear in his face.

  12. I will never forgive them for not trading for Shaq Mason. Tampa got him for a 5th. He’s cheap for two more years, and he’s be the 2nd best guy on the OL.

  13. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the real pain of the Jimmy G situation how his contact hamstrung the 49ers in free agency? If he had his current deal in March, would there have been enough money to re-sign Tomlinson and Jones?

  14. It has been a characteristic of this team for five 3 or 4 years now, at least. We’ll have a small lead late in a game that we’ve carefully managed to obtain, then the momentum will shift and the defense feasts on our o-line like lions and we can’t move the ball at all. So the other team scores at will and we do nothing about it when we’re on offense. Can’t get first downs, can’t march downfield and score, can’t get momentum back

  15. The entire OL was a problem today, even Trent (probably because he’s just getting back into things). I think Jimmy would’ve done even worse behind them, at least Lance could move around and save a few plays
