Scott Harris Introductory Press Conference – Megathread

Watch live on Bally Sports Detroit or [On Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/Tigers/videos/497502645531419/)

Will update with YouTube link once it’s done and posted.

Also will post news/tweets from writers that are there. Just wanted one place for all the information instead of a dozen separate threads.

[Scott Harris](https://twitter.com/beckjason/status/1572294682721357825) “When I think of Detroit, I think of trying to create an environment that inspires players to want to get better.”

[Scott Harris’ three tenants for the Tigers going forward:](https://twitter.com/CodyStavenhagen/status/1572295122267607041)

* Acquire, develop and retain young players
* Create a culture of development. Players should think they can come to DET and get better
* Controlling the strike zone on both sides is key to everything

[Scott Harris: “When this opportunity came, I was immediately interested in it.”](https://twitter.com/CodyStavenhagen/status/1572297142353403904)

“When I got to Detroit and I started walking around with Chris … it just felt different for me than any opportunity I had in the past.”

Mentioned combination of the fans, resources, infrastructure

[Chris Ilitch said Scott Harris has the freedom to hire a GM as he sees fit.](https://twitter.com/BradGalli/status/1572298641397661697)

Harris: “I intend to hire a GM. I don’t have a timeline for that decision.”

[Scott Harris: “We’re going to make a lot of moves (this winter)….Some of the moves are going to be calculated risks. We have to take calculated risks” to narrow the gap between our organization and others.”](https://twitter.com/evanwoodbery/status/1572299105778663436)

Scott Harris: “I don’t believe in strict 5-year plans with specific benchmarks year over year. There are too many variables year to year.”

The idea, he said, is to put together good offseasons each year and build a good ballclub.

Scott Harris said he’s not ready to answer questions on the farm system.

“I’m not sure it’s a good idea to share the Giants’ perspective of the Tigers’ farm system.”

He wants to sit down and talk with Miguel Cabrera, too, before answering those questions (regarding Cabrera’s last year)

  1. Ilitch said Steve Yzerman helped with the search for president of baseball operations Scott Harris. Hmm

  2. Sounds like Harris is going to be pretty aggressive with his moves. I’m assuming this roster is not up to his standard nor should it be.

  3. The bar was pretty low coming in after 7 years of Avila, but god damn I feel like Scott Harris is a fucking home run.

Good job Chris. Will buy a Hot N Ready (official pizza of the NFL™️) to celebrate

  4. The new prez is very well spoken. Hopefully Chris hands over as many reigns as possible though, because I’m still unsure if he knows what baseball is

  5. Guy knows he’s got a lot of work to, but seems committed to it. Specifically with the farm system, getting home grown positional players through the minor leagues needs to be an emphasis. Use moves through trades and free agency to help in the meanwhile.

  6. Basically just confirmation that it’s Harris’s organization to do whatever he wants with and Illitch is just the guy who inherited deep pockets that will check in periodically. Hopefully Harris is better with this set up than Avila was.
