Story from 2010 when he was still a college basketball player

>West Virginia point guard Joe Mazzulla has developed a rather unfortunate habit of finding his way into the police blotter. The first incident came in 2008, when Mazzulla was charged with underage drinking and aggravated assault at a Pittsburgh Pirates game. Last year, Mazzulla was suspended by West Virginia coach Bob Huggins for his arrest on charges of domestic battery. Mazzulla allegedly grabbed a woman by the neck at The Lady Lizard bar in Morgantown, W.Va. Both incidents involved alcohol.

  1. I expect Udoka to walk; if I were Brad Stevens, I would give Quinn Snyder a call the moment he does.

  2. Jason Kidd and Chauncey Billups seem to have no problem getting coaching jobs, so not sure why this would be an issue.

  3. He had issues with drinking when he was a teenager, got punished, got help, and hasn’t had any repeat offenses as an adult.

At what point do we allow people to redeem themselves for past mistakes?

Edit: based on the replies a lot of people legitimately think the answer is “never”

  4. > underage drinking

    I mean fine, whatever.

    > aggravated assault at a Pittsburgh Pirates game

    Okay… not great.

    > grabbed a woman by the neck at a bar

    Oh jesus christ

  5. This is not something that should prevent him from getting a job. I have no problem with him working just because he did something bad when he was in college.

That said, it’s a weird look to have this guy take over as a result of the Celtics taking this strong moral stance when this is on his record.

  6. This was over 10 years ago and he’s gotten help. He’s paid for his actions at the time too. Yall want apologizes but allow no room for forgiveness

  7. Yo the media destroying this team my God.. this happened over 10 years ago when he wasn’t even in the NBA (let alone he was hardly an adult) let the man live he had to learn from his mistakes and if he isn’t hurting anyone else..

  8. Can we agree it’s a bit silly to expect that if someone makes a mistake (grabbing someone!) they are subject to an entire life of threats to have their career destroyed?

This was nearly 15 years ago. He was a child. He got charged and not convicted. Fucking hell. People get convicted of violent crimes and go to jail and come back as redemption stories.

Now it’s “you were accused with something a lifetime ago so you can’t ever work again”

  9. I feel bad for the Celtics. So close to the media day and training camp and now all this shit hits the fan.

  10. This reminds me of when the previous democratic governor of virginia did blackface or dressed as a kkk memeber (still unclear), but the lieutenant governor was alleged to have committed sexual assault, the attorney general did blackface and the speaker of the house was republican. So nobody resigned in the end.

  11. Why do we, as a society, do nothing but look for bad things people have done in the past to not like them? We’ve all done nasty, nasty shit. Stop researching things people did 13 years ago.

  12. Some higher up in the Celtics is VERY angry about Ime cracking his bitch 😂😂😂😂

At what point is this an overreach of power suspending the man for an adult consensual relationship with someones unhappy wife
