[Begley] Tom Thibodeau is asked about the starting shooting guard spot: “With Jalen, with RJ, with Julius we need shooting (at SG).” When asked about it, Thibodeau says Evan Fournier is front-runner to start at SG entering training camp.

  1. Starting SG from last year is still the starter going into camp. Grimes could easily overtake him before our first game

  2. Not surprised, not set in stone either. Hoping QG puts up a strong fight in Thibs’ eyes. Hell, hoping it’s to just light even more of a fire until QG.

  3. i really don’t think this has ever been in doubt and i’m shocked to see so many people thrown off by this

  4. Listen I’m fine with all these decisions individually, but all together they make no sense. If we’re not going to start Grimes, why not just trade him for Donovan Mitchell? In what planet is a bench player untouchable in a trade for a perennial All star?

  5. I honestly don’t understand why people thought grimes was just going to be given the starting role

  6. i mean is he supposed to say Grimes is starting before camp even opens? What has Grimes done to deserve that? He said “front runner” which means there will be a competition for the spot and that’s all we can ask for.

  7. Two years ago Thibs said that Mitch could lose the starting job to Noel going into camp. Of course Thibs isn’t going to just outright say Grimes is the favorite. He wants to keep the kids hungry. But this is actually a good sign since Thibs is usually very careful with his words

Saying Evan is the “Frontrunner” means that the starting SG spot is definitely up for grabs. It just depends how Grimes performs in camp and judging from his Summer league performance we can assume Grimes is going to play very well

  8. If Grimes or even Quick shoot well in the preseason, can see them taking the starting SG spot. Evan started last year, so not surprised he’s the front runner to start.

  9. Fournier is a steady vet who produced, like it or not. Yes we need more defense in the starting 5, but if Q is that guy, he’ll earn that role promptly. Thibs shouldn’t be viewed as an idiot for trusting a man who made 200 threes, and serves as floor spacing in what’s not the most talented group from deep.

  10. If he’s a front-runner for the start of training camp, that implies there’s competition. If Grimes hits shots consistently enough he makes more sense with the starters and will eventually move into the starting lineup.

  11. second unit needs grimes more than the first unit so idk why y’all so stuck on why isn’t my fave starting

  12. This shouldn’t be upsetting to anyone. Fournier is a good player. If Grimes comes out and balls, I’m sure he’ll get the nod, especially if the defense is looking suspect.

  13. Y’all are wilding if you think Thibs is going to give the starting spot to Grimes from the get go. Training camp is used to see who gets that spot and I’m sure Grimes will earn it

  14. Need a Mitch, Obi, RJ, Grimes, Brunson starting 5 man. Sexy lob City. Trade Randle and use Jericho as our back up 4. Sweeeeeeeet lob city x2.

  15. Sure, I would like to see Grimes start. But even if he doesn’t, he’s still gunna get his minutes. It’s not like the options are Start vs. Not play at all. Dude will get his playing time.

  16. look as long as grimes gets solid minutes 20+ im fine with it. It would just be frustrating if grimes was left out of trade talks for don and then he doesn’t get enough time

  17. Not surprised by this, but why would we refuse to include a backup SG in a trade for Donovan Mitchell
